One of many sources; www.politico.com...

I read the EO and it authorizes calling up as many as 1 million in the Ready Reserve. There go my nephews back to the front. Those poor guys just got back from deployment to the sandbox and get home just long enough to see their wife and family and now they are likely to get called up again. I think they both are in police officer training just now.

Kudos for not forgetting how the federal government responds botches emergency responses.

2020 will be remembered by me as the year both sides forgot about everything and came together to be bought out by 1,200 dollars.

1,200 dollars is all it took to keep people from questioning anything. We're screwed.

Natural disasters get quagmired every time with excessive spending and foul play. The scale of response is much larger this time... So based off of history, I can only imagine the f*k ups, and excessive spending will be worse to scale.

Meh, that was once...in the 60's.

And the US has had plenty of times where uncle sam has had to step in. Yet i am pretty sure peeps still have guns and freedom of speech, right to vote, and so on after said interventions.

I hope so those babies sure miss daddy when he is deployed. The wife of course as well. Nothing like watching your children grow up over face time.

The reality of this is less sensational but more sobering than some expect.

Of course the National Guard will possibly end up performing some aspects of law enforcement if necessary. Check points are one possibility. Securing places where goods become available should shortages arise. Things like that.

But much of it is more mundane.

Should too many truckers fall ill, threatening the supply chain - guardsmen will do that.

If first responders are thinned out - they'll augment those numbers.

Wherever the machinery needs patching, guardsmen will fill those holes.

Should this get bad enough, and I earnestly hope it doesn't, it might not wind up an odd site to see guardsmen stocking shelves or working registers in grocery stores.

They've been activated to ensure continuity.

That's pretty much what the National Guard is for isn't it? Floods, earthquakes, homefront invasions, and pandemics apparently. Basically, they respond to emergency situations on home turf when needed.

It would only be disconcerting if they were called in for general social control measures. However, being called in to make sure everything keeps running "smoothly" and to assist in this national crisis IS there job.

I say, go guys! Thanks for signing up. Gos speed and stay safe!

..........and soon as that $1,200 is gone within a week paying that May rent/mortgage and a weeks worth of groceries, people will be snapped back to reality.

Good luck to everyone being activated. I hope you just unload some trucks, patrol around and get well fed because nothing crazy happens.

Be safe and thank you all for being awesome.

Send most of them to Illinois, New York, and California, due to TDS-afflicted governors. Equip with lots of teargas...or whatever is used today.
