We know the splatter game as “freckles”..not one for the faint hearted or squeamish...mainly carried out by the harrier boys or “tatty ton”..! Schooner racing was also popular...used so do this all the time at Devi ACMI...the Italians used to taxi their Fiat G91’s like the drive their cars...flat out and on two wheels...I’ve seen them drift on around a perri track bend..!! a reply to: lakenheath24

Cloudy.

The MIG was interesting to see. It could only fly for 20 minutes before running out of fuel. And this was around 1999 so to see and f106 flying was really cool.

Interestingly the -135s that were supposed to be at RF canceled, along with the E-8C and AC-130. That only leaves the KC3 for tanking, which means the aircraft requiring a boom won't be able to stay out unless they can rotate transient tankers through.

Did the RAAF contingent bring a KC-30 with them? That can at least boom as well as drogue.

They brought them up, but weren't scheduled to participate. One arrived in Salt Lake City today, so they might be sticking around.

Sounds like they may have to.
On that subject I'm hearing rumors again the RAAF is getting back to pushing for at least another 2 KC-30's to be added to the fleet on top of the two extras they already got. No word on whether these would also be second hand examples or newbuilds.

There's no such thing as too many tankers. I've seen far too many fighters stuck due to tanker availability, and that's with several hundred -135s and 59 KC-10s.

Red Flag 20-2 is going to be Euro heavy with some interesting players. Italy, Spain, and Germany are all bringing EF2000s, Italy is also bringing F-35s, and Germany GR4s from two squadrons. There will also be a NATO E-3.
