What do mean over this? Should we let China run roughshod? Hong Kong isn't Chinese anymore than is Australia or Canada or the US.

Legally, Hong Kong belongs to China.

Not till 2047 it doesn't.

If it belonged to them than explain why they aren't already set up there running things?
Explain what all these protests are about.

The people of Hong Kong don't want China to rule over them.
They have spoken!

Stop supporting tyranny with excuses.

As of 1997 it does. The lease expired. China is in charge of Hong Kong. The UN doesn't matter.

Backstabbing them...
Excuses...

I am so Ashamed right now to call myself an American.
Pathetic!!!

All you had to do was say you disagreed!!

Think I'm gonna go puke.

About as legally Chinese as the Sudetenland was German or say Crimea is Russian.

Geopolitics is a bit more complicated than some rental agreement would have you believe.

HK is autonomous. If it wasn't than the People's Liberation Army would have already "Liberated" HK from their Freedom two decades ago.

Found this link it is a good read. I googled how many troops are in Hong Kong. Lead me to it. I am hoping for the best but I doubt it is going to happen. www.bloomberg.com...
I feel for the people there as what freedoms they had are going to be gone.

China squashed the bill that had everyone in an uproar... yet the protests continue and now they've shut down the airport.

Any U.S. Governor would call in the National Gaurd in this same situation.

Honest question: are you willing to die for Hong Kong? Leave a family behind? I'm on the fence, so curious in your opinion.

Naw let us wait until 2025 or 2030 and let them complete their military build up so it will be a fair fight (sarc)

All I can say is if I were in Hong Kong I would fight to the death against a complete China take over.. It would be a short battle on my part for the population of Hong Kong is disarmed. Kung Fu does not work against armor or real guns IMO.

The fools in HK should have seen this 20 years ago, and England never should have left them to fend for themselves.

I thought China was all about peace and love only.

Honest question, do you think a war with China is not likely to happen as soon as China is stronger than the US?

Depends on what the world looks like at that time. I don't think it'd be in China's interest to war with the US now even if they were stronger militarily.

That's actually not exactly true. HK was promised elections to choose representatives.

The reality is that China from day 1 only let them vote on candidates they approved of and only 1000 people get to vote. So the result is an 'election' China controls who wins and never represents HK.

Well China will simply take and take until someone fights back. So eventually the US will either fight back or surrender, that is the most likely future.

Well it sounds like that's been working out pretty damn well for Hong Kong.

What's the problem again?

It has? Having all their freedoms revoked is good for them? When you surrender all of yours I will consider that possibility.

Both countries have so many military and economic ties globally, that both would tread lightly in engaging in an all-out war. Hell, the US takes and takes, too. It's the way if the world. I'm just doubting that China is itching to end the US outright, is all. We're their biggest customer.

If there was a war, it'd likely be proxy wars. I couldn't hardly imagine China invading the US with boots on the ground. And any missiles sent would be returned in kind.

China won't risk it.

Then why even gather their forces at the border? To hear what the world says?

Because they think the world will let them just take it the same way Hitler took Austria.

That's why we need to stand together NOW!

And Russia with the Crimea.
