So, actually according to them they need these foreign workers or we won't get our lettuce and tomatoes, milk and eggs.

Will,

Here is the crazy part... Americans do not want to work on a farm. If they use illegals they can pay whatever they want with no over site. If they use legal workers then there is over site and they need to pay set limits, and maybe even minimum wadge. Very win win for all...the Americans who will not work on a farm and the legal workers who actually get compensated more.

Here is the kicker as to why the liberals hate this idea...they might pay 20 cents more per pound due to the increase cost in labor...oh the horrors...

When I say slavery I'm not referring to the work in itself but the extra hours on a farm they say they have to work the workers because they can't get the people to work there.

Hay, the crops are ripening and Americans don't want the work.

Correction, Americans don't want the work because it pays too little. Having good wages is highly motivating!

Republicans want them here legally with legal protections minimizing potential for abuse.
Democrats want them here illegally with little to no protections against abuse.

I was thinking that maybe the farmers actually like this since it gives them, as you mentioned, unsupervised by our labor laws—workers....Very hard workers.

One wonders why they want to come to work like that. Goes to show us that in those LA countries it must be rough.

A good honest days labor on a farm is not slavery. Having grown up on a farm, I did my share. The reality is, if you have little or no education, and no marketable skill, most of what's left is manual labor at relatively low wage. What do ppl expect? It's not easy, but it's not slavery either.

Wait!!! You do not pay a person 200 bucks to mow your lawn that takes 20 mins?

The pay of a position is based on the worth of that position is to a company. This is why a sales person makes so much less than an engineer, and why a typical Mexican picker can make very good wages as they are crazy good at picking.

If a person said hey I'll mow your lawn and I said since it takes 20 mins I'll pay you 20 bucks and the person said nothing under 50 will do then I guess I'll mow my own lawn, and hell I'll come over and mow yours for 50 too. The position is worth 20 to me...take it or leave it.

Exactly so.

Many ppl do not understand the concept of supply and demand.

The also do not understand the economics of a capitalist economy.

Say we passed a law tomorrow, that $20/hr is the new minimum wage. In a very short period of time (likely weeks) there would be a chain reaction of wages rising persuant to the percieved value relative to the "base" of $20. This would cause immediate equal+ inflation, and the buying power of everyone would be the same, or less than it was to start with.

It's not the dollar amount, in and of itself, that is meaningful. It is the "buying power" that is important.

That is the elephant in the room of a socialist economy. Yes, you may have a wheelbarrow full of cash, but it doesnt buy a loaf of bread.

My major concern with illegals is there is zero oversight and so they become in your words "slave labor", working for whatever they can get. All this is really "human trafficking" but that term doesn't fit the liberal's narrative very well.

Documented labor force works for all and they do not bring their family here... they work, make money, and go home. One of the key components to stop illegal workers, stop human trafficking, is a robust work visa program to give the areas that need labor that Americans will not do the needed bodies to get the work done without the need to go down the path of human trafficking abuse to get the needed work done.

The other part is for a company to be viable they pay no more than 36% of their gross towards wages. If you raise minimum to 20 bucks then companies will find ways to do the work with less people. at 12 bucks an hour a real person might be cheaper where at 20 bucks an hour a kiosk could be cheaper replacing multiple workers, as example, so you cut your work force by 50% to keep within the 36% margin.

Now factor in the higher taxes individuals wil pay, because you know uncle sam is getting his cut, and it's almost certainly a recipe for unmitigated economic disaster.

The forrest for the trees.....

Trump has an issue with ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

It isn't our fault that the liberal media made up the claim the Trump hates Immigrants, y'all comsumed it.

His issue was and always will be, illegal Immigration.

I've been wondering why they just don't make it easier for foreign workers to apply for work visas and issue enough to meet the demand that illegals are filling. If it's going to happen anyway, then why not regulate it?

If they abuse their visas, then deport them and make it harder for them to come back in. If they are honest and respect the visa laws, then make it easier for them to extend their visas. DNA and facial recognition would ID them if they produce false paper work to get back in.

Sheet that's decent money. Their farms were vegetable farms. All manual labor with exception to plowing, etc. How about $1 for a heaping bushel of peas? Ten cents for a pint of raspberry's. A quarter for an eight quart basket of tomatoes. Over
