I thought as the baby boomers started to retire and got older we would have massive shift to the left as the "me-generation" started getting political over getting "free" stuff from the billionaires and CEOs. So far, the boomers are staying far to the right.

If you are billionaire or CEO times have never been better in this country. Price fixing of products, services, and wages has never been more controlled and optimized with data analytics and lobbyists forcing politicians to write laws in favor of the corporations. Trump's biggest accomplishment is a huge tax break for the billionaires and the gutting of consumer protection laws. For the billionaires, this is a great time to be an AmeriKan!!

Given the extreme wealth inequality in this country, I thought we would have many more riots than we do. Americans appear to be a very fat, happy, and passive people.

Obama is the least effective president in my lifetime. Congress prevented Obama from doing anything. Other than ACA, the Obama administration preserved the status quo by doing nothing.

In my opinion, GWB is the greatest president in my lifetime. The GWB administration got more of their agenda done than any other president I've experienced. The treasuring went from a surplus to a $4 trillion dollar deficit practically overnight. The transfer of wealth to the GWB party was simply astounding!! Why use the word "party" if there's no "party" ??

You probably shouldn't paint all in a group with the same broad brush. I'm a boomer, and certainly not to the right politically. BTW, I worked 37 years, part of that working in essence two jobs, before retiring with a pension. I never got any free stuff, and I earned everying I got. I served my country for 20 years. I will start getting my second pension, my military pension, when I turn 60 in five years. So I am not some entitled crybaby boomer who expects to get anything handed to them.

I don't paint all who are to the right politically with the same broad brush. Most of my friends are Republicans.

Really, considering the immigration rate is at an all time new high, the "future of the country" isnt yours to worry about. The future belongs to the youth, and at 55, your future is in the rear view mirror. About all you can do is to try to position yourself to avoid the worst possible outcomes like excessive taxation and rising rates of property crimes and homelessness. And do that while enjoying your life as best you can.

First of all, Thank you for serving our country!

The country is divided because under Obama, Dems mainly felt they could strike back at what they considered to be held down by Whitey, throw in Rap culture 🤮, and a rise in disrespect for police becoming commonplace which ultimately lead to riots in the streets (Ferguson for example).

The real problem for lower class Americans is the cost of housing. I have actually worked 40 hours per week to barely make my rent, and dream of buying a new shower curtain; and that was 20 years ago.

Yet I see people today receiving SSDI, food stamps, driving new cars, and receiving Amazon packages everyday and paying very little for rent. Yet they are the biggest complainers I have ever met. Idle hands!

Division in this country is created by two major things right now IMO:

1.). The people who want more free sh$t.

2.). The people who work and pay taxes for the whiner babies free sh$t.

If the country continues to let millions upon millions of illegals in; it will become similar to the countries they originated from. You are what you eat you know

Supply and Demand!

My life is better thanks to President Trump, and I struggle; but I have a job (which I love), teens in my neighborhood are getting jobs, instead of hanging around getting into trouble.

My sisters annuities are doing great.

The division started with Obama, and everybody knows it!

The Ugly American

Authors William Lederer was an American author and captain in the U.S. Navy who served as special assistant to the commander in chief of US forces in the Pacific and Asian theater. Eugene Burdick was an American political scientist, novelist, and non-fiction writer, and served in the Navy during World War II. The two met in the buildup to the War in Vietnam.[2]

The authors were disillusioned with the style and substance of U.S. diplomatic efforts in Southeast Asia.

^^^ This is a fact.

Obama wasn't 6 months into his swearing in when he stirred the racial pot with the Cambridge professor incident. He turned a local law enforcement issue into a highly charged racial one and it was all downhill from there. I believe it was his agenda and his intention to divide us racially.

Most Americans never thought about race till Obama began egging it on.

If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times. Electing Obama was one of the worst things this country ever did to itself.

Where do you think that term came from?

When everyone thinks the same thing about you, it's not them its you.

Oh and the USA never sent men to the moon either, so you have that in common with everyone else.

I have been a long active member here on ATS and frankly that's the only interaction I have with Americans.

My perception of Americans has never been what you describe. It has always been based on my experience with the many people here on ATS.

The landscape has changed. Wether it started with communication through meme's or the introduction of the mudpit...somewhere the notion came to be that insulting remarks are a valid and constructive way of communication.

This place used to be about civility and decorum but it has become a popularity contest where the one with most insulting remarks gets the most followers.

Sad but true..

Peace

How I described Americans (and by extension the majority of this site) is solely based on years of living right next door to them.

Military is pure socialism to the wrong people. Guns or butter, choose. I think we need to get back to having public policies that lift all boats. Everything is now selfish self-interests. We no longer have a sense of country or building a commonwealth for everyone to benefit. Everything is I've got mine screw everyone else.

This is not a country. We live in a labor camp.

Don't get me wrong, if that is your perception how can it be wrong for you. I only speak with Americans (and read their opinions) here on ATS.

If, as you state, the members of this site represent the average American I would not understand why you would call them "Loud, rude, obnoxious, arrogant, condescending"...

I have a lot of respect for a lot of the members here and how educated most of their replies are, left and right.

To each their own I guess.

Peace

Part of it is the Republicans were and are still screwed because of demographic shifts in the country with race and age that don't benefit the party.

They were in trouble before Trump. Trump was their only chance at winning and he's partially a gimmick. After Trump, Republicans are going to be in the same difficult spot and worse.

They're not likely to find another candidate like Trump, even if a future Republican candidate had identical political beliefs, they're not Trump. Goes to show they largely didn't vote because of the issues, but voted because of his personality.

So it is a gimmick, and Republicans will still be in the tough spot they were prior to Trump. He was a hail mary.

So there is desperation on the Right, they are trying to compensate for the parties position, and the younger left is falling for it and not keeping their cool. The Republicans have something to worry about, not the democrats.

So who then would get elected as a Republican? A moderate one, unlike Trump?

Moderate Republican, and you might as well vote Democrat. They'd have a hard time going up against a democrat.

from what I can ascertain from reading ATS, is that a lot of members want a civil war to go shoot liberals and politicians they don't agree with ideologically.

And this continuing hatred of Obama makes me think it might turn into a race war as well.

God help us!!

Just so you know, I'm part of the boomer generation. So it's nice to know the short remaining part of my life will only be filled with fear and worry as I try to afford healthcare and pay my mortgage.
