My understanding is that the original dossier was essentially the result of a Simpson/Jacoby article that they used to implicate McCabe in his run for the president. Manafort was prominent in that as well and names were changed to implicate Trump. The rest is history.

The 2nd dossier may well have familiar household political names. It is also clear there is a 2nd dossier that no one is talking about except a few conservative sites. This was seeminglyly confirmed by Nunez .

I am 4 pages behind now so back to catching up.

Thank-you for explaining why the FBI didn't directly access the DNC server. It's hard to imagine any entity telling the FBI "No", but the DNC did, and got away with it. If Comey wasn't lying, that's pathetic!
