I have defended Ocasio Cortez in a lot of threads on ATS. I am not interested in her tweets so much, or other things.
What I am interested in is her policies.
And so after hearing how people like her and Bernie aren't real socialism, they are "Democratic" Socialists, and how there was a plan coming out called the Green New Deal, I was anxious to read what was actually in the plan.
Needless to say, it was worth the wait.
This plan is so dangerous, so utopian and unworkable, that it almost defies reason that it could seriously be proposed in congress. But it has (or will not sure) been.

I am not going to go thru it all, only the most relevant parts, but here it is.

(6) SCOPE OF THE PLAN FOR A GREEN NEW DEAL AND THE DRAFT LEGISLATION.—
(A) The Plan for a Green New Deal (and the draft legislation) shall be developed with the objective of reaching the following outcomes within the target window of 10 years from the start of execution of the Plan:
What I am about to read to you needs to be accomplished within ten years of passing this legislation. Got that? Ok lets begin.
Dramatically expand existing renewable power sources and deploy new production capacity with the goal of meeting 100% of national power demand through renewable sources;
Well there is a doozy to start! 100% of the power in this country will be renewable in ten years. No more gasoline in your car, no more electricity from coal.
Ten years.
Hahahahahaha!!!!
The entire countries economy would immediately collapse on the passage of this. Who would invest in a country where it would be illegal to use fossil fuels in ten years, and instead you would have to use tech that isnt even invented yet on anywhere near a scale to accomplish this? The stock market would bottom out immediately. Businesses would immediately move overseas if they could. Job loss would be catastrophic.
And thats all within days of this being passed. The amount of energy, innovation, and money that it would cost to achieve this may be incalcuable. It quite literally may be an impossible task. Yet after the ten year mark, no more fossile fuels allowed.
This is just step one!
Lets move on.
building a national, energy-efficient, “smart” grid;
Well that goes without saying. If the type of energy needs to be totally transitioned inb ten years, we will need a new grid to do it. Keep in mind how massive the energy grid in the US is. Probably one of the best in the world. It has been an ongoing project for hundreds of years.
All of it needs to be replaced in ten years, or else no energy for people. I mean fossil fuels will not be allowed and will have stopped being collected, so the gird must be done with these new techs that must be invented, or else peopple will literally have to go without energy.
But hey, who cares if people freeze to death or starve or become crhronically poor; at least we get to feel good passing the Green New Deal!
upgrading every residential and industrial building for state-of-the-art energy efficiency, comfort and safety;
Every RESIDENTIAL building for COMFORT!!! That means every single house in the country must be upgraded by the government not just for safety, but for comfort!!!!
How long would that alone take! How much money would that cost! Can we give every kid na pony while we are at it? (shouldnt joke they will take it seriously)
eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from the manufacturing, agricultural and other industries, including by investing in local-scale agriculture in communities across the country;
So factories and farms can no longer emit green house gasses. Now keep in mind, businesses have said even reducing gasses by things such as 20 percent over a twenty year period would be incredibly difficult, and yet now they have ten years to eliminate. What sort of comapany would want to exist in that country?
And how will farms operate with no fossil fuels and no emissions at all. It must be a 100% reduction. This means that farms will stop runninng, and people will starve.
Just like in the Soviet Union paradise that banished Kulak farmers leading to 50 million people starving.
Again, small price to pay to feel good.
eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from, repairing and improving transportation and other infrastructure, and upgrading water infrastructure to ensure universal access to clean water;
Clean water is achievable. The rest, see above.
funding massive investment in the drawdown of greenhouse gases;
Key word there being MASSIVE investment, seeing as how we need to totally replace our energy system in ten years
making “green” technology, industry, expertise, products and services a major export of the United States, with the aim of becoming the undisputed international leader in helping other countries transition to completely greenhouse gas neutral economies and bringing about a global Green New Deal.
SO massive government control over our economy, for a "Global Green New Deal" SOunds so warm and fuxzzy doesnt it?
Moving on.
(B) The Plan for a Green New Deal (and the draft legislation) shall recognize that a national, industrial, economic mobilization of this scope and scale is a historic opportunity to virtually eliminate poverty in the United States and to make prosperity, wealth and economic security available to everyone participating in the transformation. In furtherance of the foregoing, the Plan (and the draft legislation) shall:
There will never be a system ever that will virtually eliminate poverty. These are the sorts of utopian lies and dreams that the communists told that led to murder and death on unprecedented scales to achieve this unreachable dream.
The best system yet to lower poverty has been capitalism, and it still has much top be desired. Socialism like that provided here has failed miserably every time.
Anyone proposing they have a plan to virtually eliminate poverty ought top be laughed out of the room.
More to come below
You have some fallacies here.
"100% of national power demand."
You need to find the sections of legislation that define what "National Power Demand" actually means.
>All our cars, blah blah blah, etc...
No.

I was going to make a long, drawn out post countering some (if not all) of your points but it's not worth the effort.
I support the plan and agree with its overall objectives.
