The way the average statist responded to the recent school shooting in Florida illustrates perfectly the irony regarding their state-loving desires. They are compelled to seek safety, even at the expense of personal freedoms, their own and others. And one is rarely protected by state-run protection.

On a recent CNN “townhall”, school children and other individuals of the public in Parkland, Florida took turns deriding Senator Rubio and NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, because both are opposed to the restriction of gun rights. But both of them were implicated as having blood on their hands, that they were in some way responsible for the violence that took place because they do not advocate gun-control. Because Loesch is a spokeswoman for the NRA, she calmly reminded the mob that she was in fact standing up for them and their human rights, their freedoms. Someone in the crowd responded by yelling “murderer”. According to Broward country Sheriff Scott Isreal, Loesch wasn’t really standing up for the students until she capitulated to their demands, until she told them “I want less weapons”. In other words, until she toed the statist line.

What is certain is the ease to which people are willing to give up their rights and freedoms, and in this case to disarm themselves and the generations following for a small piece of mind.

But absent their guns, absent the necessary tools to defend themselves, people are sitting ducks in a situation such as the one at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. In that instance, the heroes could do nothing but stand between the gunman and his potential victims in the hopes of shielding them before bleeding out. As brave as they were, they were unable to fight back, unable to end the slaughter, only to become another victim of it. If only one of them had a gun. But their only chance at survival was to hide, flee, or wait for the proper authorities.

The problem is, the “proper authorities” had ample opportunity to stop the shooter long before he even claimed his first victim, and worse, refused to engage until he had claimed his last.

In the years before the shooting, 23 calls related to the shooter or his brother were made to the sheriff’s office (yes, Sheriff Isreal’s office). Someone close to the shooter also called the FBI to report concerns about the shooter’s “gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behaviour, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting”. All of this led to nothing. According to a statement, the FBI “didn’t follow established protocols”, which is a euphemism for bureaucratic failure and incompetence. On top of that, the school’s resource officer, a deputy who was on school grounds during the whole affair and the only armed man on the grounds, stood outside, frozen, as the shooter continued his rampage.

About the deputy’s failure to act, CNN’s Chris Cillizza, doing his best impression of a potato, says “Here's definitive proof that a good guy with a gun doesn't always stop a bad guy with a gun”. But most of all, it’s definitive proof of the inadequacy of government bureaucracy, and a prime example of state-run protection, as it sits outside and waits for it all to be over.

The state had failed at every level, from the school district, to the sheriff’s office, to the federal police. But for some reason, your average statist still calls for more laws, more state control, more state power, handing it all over to the very same bureaucracies that have proven they do not deserve it first place. And all of this at the expense of their own personal freedoms and civil liberties.

We can infer from the statist’s desire for more state protections an even deeper desire: the desire to do nothing. Their willingness to give up their freedoms and those of their children for a slice of state-sanctioned safety is indicative of their own unwillingness to defend their own communities, their own children, if ever the moment arrives, or else they’d demand their damn weapons back.

They just waited for a good crisis, and didn't let it go to waste.

Rewind back to the national convention in Philadelphia. They were calling for outright bans.

Before Parkland.

Before Town Halls.

Those same statists created the background check in 1998.

First time in our entire history, over 200 years we could practice a clear right laid out without having to ask the states permission.

It's pretty sad what's been going on.

Using the dead to push the same crap they have been for 30 years now.

From the dust bin

Statist's obviously lack logic circuits.

Failure of Law Enforcement is the problem, as you said, the police, FBI, the school, HELL, even the students knew this kid was a powder keg ready to burst.
So, the FBI failed in ENFORCING said laws.

Also, its kind of ironic how the left didn't announce any gun contol when that loon went to capital hill to shoot up Republican law makers did they? Or, how they are silent with all the murders in chicago, detroit, or baltimore.

whats stopping schools from outfitting teachers with water cannons in every classroom, giant bags of confetti in the ceiling you could drop on the shooter(s), or any number of other creative countermeasures?

how about just good old fashioned Jackie Chan style throwing anything and everything at an attacker? how about everyone bum rushing a single attacker knowing some will get hit but eventually they will get to him and when they do hes going to be torn limb from limb?

how about some freakin imagination?

as to statists....yes, obviously they make no sense, but we cant be worried about that....we gotta tend to our own affairs. If you want to be an activist sign up to the NRA and support all the companies that support the 2nd. Talk to your friends and neighbors and educate those who are willing to learn.

It doesnt matter what Trump says or thinks about this...it only matters what he does....and if he does something stupid he will pay politically....what else do you want? i personally dont worry about it at all....i dont love or even like Trump....im glad he won over HIllary but hes disappointed me on almost every issue he ran on so i could care less what he does as long as he doesnt start WW3.

But killing conservatives is OK. Because they don't agree with you. Killing the unborn is fine too. And of course the gang-related killing sprees in liberal utopias don't fit the narrative. Besides, they are mostly black kids so who really cares about them, besides an occasional photo-op?

By Any Means Necessary is the progressive mantra.

S&F for the OP... spot on as usual.

Who said anything about if you kill conservatives because they dont agree with you? I was attempting to point out the left's hypocrisy with guns. I think you totally got confused on my take, or maybe I didn't explain it well enough, because we agree, everything you said, I agree, 100% with.

Sorry, my bad.

I was agreeing with you. The part about killing conservatives is OK was just me pointing out the mindset of the left. If people don't think like them then whatever happens is OK. That is why there was no hue and cry when a republican was shot. It was fine with them.

I didn't explain myself well.

Why does anybody need an assault rifle?

But doesn't he also want to arm teachers?

While I'm not really game with raising the age limit to 21. Do we not arm 18 year olds to protect our country?
So they can't by it, but we will give them one?
Stupid.

What does assault rifle mean to you?

And for the record, it isn't the Bill of Needs... it is the Bill of Rights.

Because the state won’t always be there to protect you, or worse, they’ll come after you.

It's called sanity. Though it can go to far defnitely, keeping tenagers from buying assault rifles is common sense, opposing is it just "making decisions on emotions" as conservatives love to say.

170 school districts in Texas have teachers who have a CCW, also 6 states that allow teachers to be armed, not all, but those who want to. And guess what, no school shootings in those states, or districts.
More than half of the population of Minnesota are registered gun owners, do you see massive gun violence in that state?
High Schools used to have rifle teams, dudes used to have a gun rack at high school and nothing. Society has changed, guns haven't. Thanks to the libtard mindset

The last "kid", by the way, was 19... Old enough to be through boot camp and in combat. Old enough to vote, old enough to be considered an adult in a court of law.

So stop the silly "think about the children!!" angle. You don't care about the kids... you care about a scary black rifle thingey that CNN says is BAD!!!!

Absent the state, there would be no public schools. No public school shootings.

Absent state and federal laws, all children could be armed. No need for state protection, such as armed school teachers.

Utopia! So much better than the pure socialist statist sub culture provided by the U.S. Military; 100% Medical, 100% Housing, 100% Rations, in exchange for 100% following orders as to what to wear, trim your hair, where to go, what to bring, and what to do when you get there.

So U.S. people should ask themselves whether the U.S. Military is friend or foe. They have such an un-American way of life, like socialists, and not like rugged individualists. A rugged individualist would make his own gun, buy his own transport to a location close to the front, make his way up country to the battlefield and get captured as an unlawful combatant.

Statist! Sounds so pejorative!

What's an assault rifle? Rifles don't assault anyone, they're inanimate objects incapable of independent action.

It's the user that makes it an "assault rifle". Mine is a punch holes in targets rifle, 'cause that's what I use it for...

It's just a rifle. Nothing more, nothing less.

But to answer your question... I don't need a reason other than I want one. Or two. Or even three or four. Nor do I need to justify it, it's really none of your business.
