One day, a woman and three other defendants kidnapped a mentally challenged man. They then proceeded to hold him prisoner for several days of torture, which included beating him, forcing him to drink toilet water, and shouting racial and political insults at him. Much of the ordeal was even recorded and uploaded to Facebook.
The main defendant in the case was just freed from jail and given only probation, despite being found guilty of hate crimes and kidnapping. Insane, right? How could such a travesty of justice occur in any modern society?

The four defendants were black, and the victim was white.

Insane. A man just got fifteen years for breaking into a mosque and leaving bacon. Nobody hurt.

These four psychos should be locked up cos they enjoyed torturing. Menaces to society.

This is a severe miscarriage of justice and sending a terrible signal to other hateful people out there (thankfully the vast minority of people).

Bad news for the victim and his family.

Indefinite detention is reserved for very few crimes.

That’s what usually happens with a plea deal.
I’m not so sure it can be classified as a travesty of justice in that case.

They remind me of the Kate Steinle murderer....uneducated, mentally slow, scum of society.

If they had done this in California, they’d be acquitted and probably even gotten a job out of it.

Society be fu(Ked...

This is what passes for justice in Cook County Illinois. Another reason why Chicago has such violence. The Cook County judicial system, judges and prosecutors have blood on their hands as far as I'm concerned. However not surprising to see this verdict.

You want to blame someone blame Cook county Administration and the Justice system.

I hear gubment there is corrupted, they can't clean up their own act let alone the streets.

Overcrowding reduced by releasing inmates

Whoever offered her a plea deal in such an open and shut case should rot in a cell right next to her.

What kind of message does this send?

It says that kidnapping and torturing someone on Facebook isn't that big of a deal.

Are you #ing kidding me? I watched the video and they were laughing the whole time. They abducted him just to torture him and film it. The second miscarriage of justice after Kate Steinle. I hope karma is already hot on their trails. Useless scumbags.

I remember when this happened.
One of the scum bags- I think the first guy in the mug shots, took a knife and cut the guys head.
The justice system, or lack there of, is an abortion in first world countries.
At least in 3rd world countries there is a deterrent - death.
We just pamper these low lives. Give them hugs and kiss and send them on their merry way.

A guy will get caught with a bag of weed and go to jail for years.
Yet you can physically abuse someone, hold them hostage for days and degrade them, all the while publicly humiliate them. Inflicting a life time of mental trauma and pain.
But that's no big deal.

Would it have been different if the races were any other combination? Why the need to italicize that as if it's one of the most important parts of the story? Trying to politicize this handicapped man's misfortune?

This is ridiculous though, the justice system is a joke.

BANG ON!
You one swung the hammer and put that nail deep into the board my friend!

If it was the other way around, it would be mayhem in the streets.

I'm agog that they were not all jailed for a long time.

There are scant details in the linked article to indicate why they should be treated so leniently and yet i have an impression that there are a great many black people in jails in the US and i assume that many are there for crimes that were committed against white people.

So is it really accurate to imply that they were essentially let off specifically due to their victim being white?

Is there anything else to support this?

Or is the justice system generally effed in a load of ways, because i'm pretty sure you got a craptonne of black folks in prison who aint been let off owt.
