Considering many of the parts are probably from China it could be just a service call. On a serious note however there was a reason this was made public. If it was an issue of international security we wouldn't have heard about it. What we should be asking is why it was released publicly when normally this is something the state department would handle behind the scenes.

They used to use German optics in the US satellites.
Can the Chinese really trust their own RV abilities to chose the right drone?

The soviet Union taught the world that quantity does not trump quality. Even the Chinese President has talked about downsizing their military and updating it.

The US should have intercepted the vessel and demanded the drone to be turned over. Failure to comply should result in the ship being sunk and our property recovered.

With what? You're assuming there was a warship in the area that could do that.

Cause the U.S. Navy is all about science, especially when it's near the contested Spratley Islands.

I wasnt aware 50 miles from Subic Bay is near the Spratly Islands? Secondly the title of the vessel in question, USNS, should tell you its an unarmed vessel. It was a research vessel and the UUV was properly marked and identified as US property. China broke international law, acted as a pirate and committed an act of war.

Finally China lost the legal battle with the Philippines over the Spratly Islands.

Float some 'special' drones out there next time. The sort with explosives in. Mark them properly.

Then do a Willy Wonka "no. don't. stop. police" thing as they take it away.

Yes they are actually. Knowing the science of the water in that area helps calculate thermocline layers nearby, and let's them keep charts up to date among other things.

Thank you for wishing me and my future children death. That's very sweet of you.

It's what you're indirectly wishing on every one of us.
"Our president is a wimp because he doesn't want to start war".....
Sorry but that is precisely what you're saying.
Having a spine doesn't mean you immediately flex military power
in an effort to intimidate a foe that doesn't give a damn.
Diplomacy is real evolution. Grow up.

And why would that foe give a damn about diplomacy unless it solely benefitted him. *cough* Iran

Having a spine also doesn't mean relying on diplomacy with individuals talking from both sides of their mouths.
How about you grow up and realize that.

You're right Wardaddy F it all.
Let's go to war with everyone.
You first.
You carry the avatar of an actor pretending to be a solider.
I hope you're a real one and you feel encouraged to be in the front lines.

As for Iran - Trump says he will renegotiate that deal.
Iran says it will not listen to any negotiations
and the terms are final.

You just may get that war you're so thirsty for.

Rofl ok. Because I totally said all of that.

Wanna talk about avartars? Alright. Look at it. The actor isn't conveying a joy of war.

As I said, you're the one who probably needs to grow up. Stop letting fear, cowardice, and inexperience dictate your world view.

Thanks for the laugh!

Indeed. Maybe in the context of a new administration that has already sent a signal about possible US-China relations (Taiwan phonecall). Both sides testing how a new administration would view this incident.

I agree quantity does not trump quality. However the increasing reliance on technology is an Achilles heal. In these area the USA is fast being fast superseded by a nation that has the ability to produce this technology on mass. Wars of the future will be fought over computer screens and combatants drones and robots.

Regarding sinking a ship to recover a drone. Im glad your not in charge of the world shadow government. You would spark an international incident and possibly a war. The USA has spent trillions on war in the last couple of decades. Do you really want to spend more..

Okay, it's time to step up the game with those jerks in China. All US hardware should be rigged for detonation if the wrong people grab it.

They want to play games. We can play games too.

No - China sparked an incident by stealing sovereign US military equipment and refused to give it back. The days of blaming a nation for responding to another nations breaking international law is done. If China doesnt want to spark a war then dont steal sovereign US technology.

Only an unthinking idiot would see the nation who stole the item, causing the incident, as the victim.

Read how the Guardian are now spinning this story...

Headline: Donald Trump accuses China of 'unpresidented' act over US navy drone.

President-elect Donald Trump has risked further inflaming US relations with China, after he used Twitter on Saturday to accuse China of an “unpresidented act” in its seizing of an unmanned American submarine this week.

Then it goes on to say how Trump spelt unprecedented incorrectly.

China can do anything they want really and they know it!
Do China even pay any tariffs on any of their goods they import to the West?

A dangerous mindset to be in when a country elects a leader who wont bend over for China. China is not a superpower and has n means to project force.

If they wont give it back then we should recognize Taiwan and push to have them reinstated at the UN Security Council as a permanent member, retaking their seat.
