Trump Campaign Memo: Primary Strategy Was To Provide ‘SAFE SPACE’ For Voters Called ‘Bigot'

An internal memo from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign obtained by FiveThirtyEight shows that Trump sought to court voters who felt a “persistent state of disenfranchisement” from the U.S. political process by offering them a “safe space” to express their views.

Trump’s campaign strategy during the 2016 primary season specifically targeted voters who “have been called ‘stupid,’ ‘racists,’ and ‘bigots'” by “elites,” according to the memo.

Article Here

Excerpts from the Memo:

They went after low-information voters..And voters who wouldn't normally vote..

After all, not only are these people unlikely to vote, they have no clue who John Kasich is or why they ought to miss their kid’s soccer game on a Tuesday night for him.

...

These are people who may not know where to vote, whether or not they are eligible to participate, and what the hours are.

In the media and in certain social circles, our low-P supporters have been called “stupid,” “racists,” and “bigots.”

The “elites” look down on them, and there is evidence they deny their support for our candidate because they fear being ostracized.

That’s why the engagement scripts for low-P must all open with a warm and friendly disclosure: “I’m a volunteer for Mr. Trump’s campaign for President.”

This lets them know they’re in a “safe space.”

An unprecedented targeting strategy must be in sync with this unprecedented campaign.

I would argue this strategy is nothing new..

Lee Atwater pioneered it with Pres. Bush Sr.

Geez, that's all he offered them? A safe space?

Didn't the Dems offer free phones, free healthcare?

He needs to step up his game.

A phone is necessity to find a job and Healthcare..well not dying from curable stuff is kind of self explanatory...

But a "safe-space" to let your inner racist/bigot out? Priceless.

Oh don't even try to glamorize the healthcare crap to me. It turned out to be a seriously expensive disaster to thousands, including my own mother.

But seriously, if this little "memo" is suppose to make Trump look bad, I have to ask if you have ever seen ANY emails floating around from the other side?

This is a joke, right?

Yet another "you can't make this stuff up" story. Bravo!

But really, bigots and racists should not have to hear that they are bigots and racists. It hurts their little feelers.

Oh look another another thread basically calling Trump supporters racist. Thanks for the compliments I guess.

Oh look more deflections and half truths not addressing the op when it is negative about Trump.
Shocking!

And your mom should be mad at the insurance companies who screwed her in the name of not losing any profit.

Well, this certainly fits with the theory that Trump is deliberately trying to throw this election to Hillary. My next thought is, "I wonder which rumors or news stories about Clinton, this week, is he helping distract people from?"

No wonder Trump said he "loved the poorly educated"!

Well, this is the transparency that some would rather not see. It worked. They were taken in, just as many others who bought into Trump's enterprises. That time it was business deals, this time politics.

Whether it "makes Trump look bad" is entirely up to the reader...The memo is legit so you can read and decide for yourself.

Not sure, but I think the implication is not that they're racist, but that Trump's campaign thinks his supporters are "snowflakes".

Precisely why Trump strategists decided offering bigots and racists a "Safe Space" would work ...

Lets see here..“persistent state of disenfranchisement” from the U.S. political process.."

I was called a potential TERRORIST so THAT would count ...I think.
Often I am called a bigot for my humorous anecdotal ideas about shooting Jihadist's fatally.
Or ...MAYBE he means the term in a more figurative and DEEPER fashion than inviting a KKK ,GRAND DRAGON to his campaign.
It doesn't fit his prior profile anyway.
THIS is the same as that jerk behind Hillary, SHE had no idea who he was.

uhhh...that is the lead strategist of the Trump Campaign that described his supporters as Racists and Bigots and suggested a strategy to draw them out and offer a "safe space"

Also said they were low information voters who would not know who John Kasich is, likely had never voted and might not even be aware that they could vote.

I think your beef might be with the Trump campaign?

any thread which criticize trump and his campaign ends up with massive deflection, but Bernie buys a lake house ' death to socialist'
or any spurious clinton campaign faux pas, 'she's the devil incarnate'

....

Trump campaign supposedly providing a safe place for people who dislike others for one sake, 'another thread bashing trump', 'trump supporters are racist'

with so much deflection, i dont think ive ever seen so much non-political banter about politics.
its also Obama's fault a safe place for bigots are provided somehow too.

i wonder if the Reps got hacked, what sort of dirty laundry would unravel, and what deflection would mongs come up with.

-
im voting Trump, though im not part of the uneducated bigots who think they are god's gift to god, or have a clever reply to every trump criticism. just based on politics

Interesting, since it was the government/tax man that told her she was given too much in subsidies, and had to pay it back. And while I personally hate big pharma, at least she is getting some meds for free from them. (I'm sure I'm paying for it somehow, but I'm ok with that.)

I have read the article twice now. How is this even a story? He seems to be going after what may be considered "low income" voters. Any labeling of racist and bigots is coming from the media. Seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel to me.

Maybe hillary supporters are actually getting worried?

Well, they do have a point.

Take a look at the part of the memo that comes after your quote:

For the low-P crowd, it is a vicious cycle. They don’t get any voter contact love from the campaigns because they don’t vote, but they don’t vote because they don’t get any voter contact. It is a persistent state of disenfranchisement

I think that is very true and that voter disenfranchisement is a problem in a democracy. It is about time that someone recognises this. Far all the flaws Trump's campaign has, this is something they have done right.

It is not low info voters per se they are talking about. It is voters that, as it stands, are unlikely to vote in the Republican primary. rather than low info, it is low interest, hence this part:

Then we follow with an encouraging invitation: “We’d like you join us, to help us Make America Great Again. Can we count on your vote in the upcoming primary?” We express our appreciation for them and remind them of what’s at stake if they don’t vote. We make sure they know the rules for voting, and we appraise them of early and absentee opportunities, hours and poll locations.

Make them care, make them feel relevant, make them see the opportunities.

I like that approach.
