Telemarketers Are Scum

I work for a school district and, as such, am off for the summer. It isn't until the summer months that I can fully recognize and appreciate the volume of unsolicited telemarketing calls that come into my home each day. I start getting these annoying calls in the early morning and continue to do so until late at night. I'm so sick of it that I've resorted to cussing and berating the callers with every type of insult I can muster. But it does no good ... they keep calling and calling and calling.

I've been on the National Do Not Call Registry since its inception in 2003. It doesn't do a damn bit of good.

A year ago, I invested in a Call Blocking Device that is connected to my phone line. To date, I've blocked well over 200 telemarketing numbers. That's just individual, unique phone numbers - not the number of calls the bastards have made. I'm sure many of them have tried to call several times, but my call blocker disconnects them before the phone even rings.

The FTC has clear, concise rules and regulations concerning the telemarketing industry, but telemarketers just laugh and continue to do as they please. The FTC is either unwilling or unable to control the situation, but at the same time tout their "victories" at collecting millions of dollars in fines. The problem is that not a single penny goes toward the elimination of illegal telemarketers - all the money just goes into the U.S. Treasury general fund.

Many people (myself included) have expressed our concerns on the FTC "propaganda" page, but still nothing gets resolved.

Is anybody else completely fed up about this? Any suggestions on what can be done to bring some semblance of sanity back to where we can use our phones without fear of being scammed or accosted by the dregs of society that are the telemarketing industry?

Note: I was able to block three more telemarketers in the time it took to write this post. Being able to press the big "BLOCK NOW" button on my call blocker is really cathartic.

I just have fun with them when they call.

The Indian guy who called asking me if I want Cialis will never call me back when I told him I get a 4 hour erection because I have a naked picture of his mother.

I treat them the way the lady in the 40 year old virgin treats them..i verbally abuse them wth zero limits. I tell them their mother must be ashamed to gave a cold calling scum son/daughter.

I end the call by telling them to jump off a cliff or to go # their mother. I don't give even on iota of # about them or their feelings or if they are human beings and need a job etc...

Scum.

Its a job and mostly all of them hate it... but i'll tell you one thing...

Most of them do enjoy pissing you off if you cop an attitude with them... it brings a little amusement to their horrible job...

And... IF you think being rude to them will get you on a "do not call list"...You'll be in for a surprise

guess what... You just got placed on every call list they have in the call center... i promise you

Did it for 5 years brother...

What? these bastards should be skinned alive.

I am on the do not call registry as well.

I put the last guy on speaker since he called when we were having dinner. They were asking me to update the security on my home computer. It took him a little while to figure out that the Commodore 64 ain't around anymore.

Yes, I figured some of them enjoy pissing us off...which is why I personally attack them verbally. I don't get mad, i just get as personal as i can without knowing them.

I'd don't give a damn if it makes em feel bad. Too bad.

And one day if things get so bad that I ever have to take a job like that, I'll understand why people hate me. And ill just have to accept it.

Can anyone answer the question: how do numbers get on these lists? I have never recieved a telemarketing call.

Yes the job sucks sooo much ass.... but situations like that make it tollerable

Love the ones who claim their from mircosoft tech support...

They start in on me about my computer spamming the internet, I respond with a shock voice, no really that is cool. Ok how do I stop it.

The go into the spill about wanting me to click here or there...

I tell them there is a problem I dont have a mouse.

They then ask me to push keys in this order. when they bring up the alt key or the cntl key or even worse the window key,

I say I do not have those keys on my keyboard,

causes them to shift script to apple, and they say use the four connected circle key by the space bar.

I say that one does not exist either...

At that point the poor smuck will ask me what is on my screen....

it is at that point I say Commadore 64 Basic V2 64k ram system 38911 basic bytes free Ready and a blinking cursor.

At that point they get frantic and ask how do I get on the internet, I say oh you mean compuserve?

they go what is that.

I say Mugu I just wasted your time you elephent jockey...

they start throwing f-bombs and I laugh until they hang up....

They never specified to use my pc-clone computer ROFL....

No worries, by that time I've already pressed the "BLOCK NOW" button. Let them try calling again all they want. They won't get through. And if I'm placed on another call list they'll get blocked in time also. In the meanwhile, they'll get a another verbal thrashing to highlight their day. And the cycle continues.

I wonder how many telemarketers go home each day to beat their spouses and kick their dogs. Just think how much more stable the American mindset would be if we eliminated all telemarketing jobs.

I think we have laws that are more strict in regards to telemarketers in Canada. I rarely get them as well.

I agree. I would be a telearketer if i had to and i would accept the abuse i get.

Yeah well, the phone service here is spotty due to the extreme cold, and when it's out we use snow geese as carriers so things get lost in translation.
