HI again. I had to take off too. Been tired and it's raining again so I tried to take a nap. Also had to spend time with the dogs.

Is this normal for your area to have so much rain this time of the year?

Maybe he pissed off the pixies and they keep doing a rain dance.

The dogs are fine. The neighbor was across the way and they wouldn't come in, which is unusual. I guess he keeps dog food and treats over there.

I've only lived here for 4 years but it does seem to be excessive. It's getting tiring.

Hi everybody!

Hey Mike, how did you get started using birch for art? It's kind of an odd medium...well not traditional, you know what I mean? I just was wondering what interested you about it?
The effect is really nice...soft. (or maybe the pink wall is just making it seem that way? lol)

12 years ago on my dads property in Michigan a birch tree I grew up with was struck by lightning.

I had to cut it down with a chainsaw. It was pouring rain. I noticed how beautiful birch bark looked as I peeled away lawyers. So many cool colors. I ended up peeling all the bark from the dead tree and gave it back its life. Sounds sappy but it's true. LOL. I soaked it in warm salt water and more colors shot into my eye.

I starting cutting the birch bark and peeling it. My mom is a artist and had lots of empty canvas. I started coming up with ideas, cuting curving and glueing birch on canvas. Most came out bad lol some were ok! Now when I see a birch tree I want to give it a hug and then peel it. Lol. I am searching for a cool black birch tree.

Thank you! That was actually a rather personal and fascinating story!

I used to draw, with pencil...pen...pen & ink...coloured pencils...charcoal...pastels...pretty much anything that would mark on paper. I've painted too. Love watercolours, like acrylics and hate oils. My dad did oil paintings...the smell always upset my stomach.

I've always liked the thought of something 'not flat' being applied to a flat canvas...like a sculpture coming out of it...or collages of items, not pictures.
I like what you've done...very much. They have a 'gentleness' to them.
Must be inspired by the boy who saved the tree.

It looks like your son has a very 'linear' approach. Your own kids' art is always the best! I love it when anybody's kids make me a pic for my fridge.
That bottom piece...wow...I'm impressed. Very detailed, that must have taken a lot of time and patience.
It's really beautiful...reminds me of intricate quilt-work.

You have wonderful hand-eye coordination...mine is getting worse, lol. Likely why I use a keyboard and words now.

Thank you, the bottom one taught me how to stitch and sew plus I poked my fingers so many times. Took one year to finish, I did it slow like a turtle. Lol, never again. Ever

Good grief! Were you in solitary confinement? And why didn't you use a thimble?
A year is a long time to invest in a project.
I half-knitted a sweater then gave up because it was taking too long, lol. I guess I don't have that kind of commitment.
