Nah, I don't believe Cruz is surprised by this. Carly is not as wise though and may be surprised. I think Cruz is using this tactfully. When he goes to convention and is chosen but she isn't, it will give him the platform that he is an outsider again. Not really part of the establishment.

It probably will not be effective, yet he has seem oblivious to the fact that many have taken notice that he is not one you want to make an agreement with!

It is not up to any candidate. Technically. However since nominees started picking running mates the convention has rubber stamped them. The convention always has the power to chose somebody else, they just do not.

I totally understand that. But since Senor Smackable Face is not going to roll in with enough delegates to get a rubber stamp it would be funny to see what, if that situation arose, happens.

I think you mean "tactically" but I could be wrong. Tact is the last word I would use describing Cruz.

Tactically: of, relating to, or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end

Tactfully: adroitness and sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues

No one is going to choose him, though. That's the thing.

He's delusional to think so. No one likes him - not his former colleagues, classmates, cohorts, and various others - he's really creepy.

Anyone who gets the nomination gets a rubber stamp. The VP choice is not based on primary voting nor delegates. It is up to the convention to chose. When the nominee chooses they just rubber stamp it by tradition. So you could role in with no delegates or all the delegates and you have no more or less power at choosing your VP. It is all up to the convention. So far they have always just gone along with the choice.

The 1980 Vice President selection process was not a rubber stamp. Bush was a compromise and not Reagan's first choice.
