I don't think there is a huge problem with socialism as it's defined here on this thread as life in Denmark.

And of course the socialists there in Denmark would certainly know they are being held up as an example of "benevolent socialism" wouldn't they?

But what does that remark mean?

It's simple cause and effect. Villains learning from the past and doing what needs to be done to make it look like they're not as bad as they used to be.

But we're talking about Denmark. Are you saying Denmark is all Villian's and their wealth and high standard of living is a lie? Do tell.

No. We're not talking about Denmark. We're talking about socialism. Denmark is just a stage. At any rate, it has to be said. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Nothing wrong with being helpful to the people who needs help. That's also a christian view, am i right?

And the socialist's view is robbing from the rich, and give to the poor, So the poor can go out,and buy more stuff.

Of course there is a lot of overhead there. Where the STATE gets the biggest cut, and dishes it out according to whomever it deems to be in 'need'.

Using bold face authoritarianism.

No that isn't the christian view.

As a christian does so of their own free will, and doesn't outsource 'helping' people to the STATE.

Do rich people use the highways and use the railroads and other public infrastructure. Most companies deliveries are delivered with or by publicly funded railways and roads, I know Amazons uk deliveries rely on public funded infrastructure that enable their company to operate. I'm sure many companies publicly educated work forces too all helpful to the bottom line of the rich not just the poor

Yep, and they pay for it via property taxes.

Much like the income tax property taxes is progressive.

Meaning the more value their homes have, As rich peoples homes are expensive. They pay substantially MORE to pay for those.

Was there a point there ?

Also I wonder how many people they employed building those fancy homes?

That in turned used that cash that went to other local business's?

That is trickle down in action.

Does anyone have anything other than DEMAGOGUERY?

It just seems like your surprised such a proportion n of democrats have socialist values, that would be obvious from them being the most progressive of the two parties, but you also get capitalist democrats I I aging and socialist republicans who advocate progressive taxation policies that benefit the whole. Sometimes it's just the best way of doing things that benefit the whole nation. You've had a socialist government fot the past 8 years and the rich have never been richer and the social mobility never been as divided. So I don't think the rich complain too much when they are getting richer.

Nope not surprised. The only one that has came out of the socialist closet is Sanders.

They have been recycling the same old garbage since before FDR.

It still amazes me that so many seemingly intelligent, and articulate people on ATS have such little grasp on reality.
Every time there's a thread including socialism, so many come out of the gate and scream about how bad it is - without understanding what socialism is. Very few have actually lived under it. They just know it's really bad because their favorite Fox analyst says it is.

The same thing happens with all the other hot topics: Evolution, gun control, climate change etc.
The ill informed barking loudly to drown out everyone else.

It's kinda sad.

The wonderful thing about being an American is that you really don't have to give a rats about anyone but yourself.

Actually Denmark is pretty awesome. Germany and Austria are too, at least economically.

I traveled through Austria a few years ago---the consistent, well distributed, wealth of random small towns in the countryside----working farms----is astounding compared to the most of equivalent in the USA. No graffiti, every house well painted and gardened, town shops & centers clean. I thought "Austria is a first world country". The USA isn't in many places. Austria is a rich country. USA is a country with rich people. The GDP per person isn't the whole story.

A few decades ago, USA was far wealthier than Europe.

A lot of it is because the vast majority of Americans never travel outside of the USA, and rely on soundbites and whatever their favorite news anchors, talking heads, politicians, preaches/pastors and family tells them.

Another angle is that Canada has more socialist elements to it, and its embarrassing to admit Canada has a few things better than the USA. American "exceptionalism" is strong, so horror stories about their healthcare and high taxes tend to be popular among conservatives.

Remember, you always hear people complain -- the happy people usually aren't very vocal.

Yes you do. But only in America are there many well meaning people who honestly believe that selfishness is moral.

Occasionally, one of them gets a chance to speak up as it were.

At one point an American newspaper in an editorial said that Stephen Hawking would be dead if he had to rely on socialized medicine. "people such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."

Hawking himself said that to the contrary, “I wouldn’t be here today if it were not for the N.H.S. I have received a large amount of high-quality treatment without which I would not have survived.”
