During the DNC debate tonight the candidates were asked who or what was the biggest national security threat. Answers ranged from China to unrest in the Middle East. Bernie Sanders declared, unequivocally, that climate change was the biggest threat to the security of the United States.

“The scientific community is telling us: if we do not address the global crisis of climate change, transform our energy system away from fossil fuels to sustainable energy, the planet that we’re going to be leaving our kids and our grandchildren may well not be inhabitable,” the Vermont Independent said during the first Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas.

Martin O'Malley also chimed in stating that cascading events stemming from climate change would be threatening to national security.

The "scientific community" are all idiots on the payroll. I fear that the movie "Idiocracy" is playing out before my eyes... I feel insanely stupid for even posting a reply to this inane crap.

Now donning helmet to ram head into wall...

Here is the sad thing, as I see it... in all seriousness... no sarcasm; for once...

Climate change is a serious NON-ISSUE compared to the Middle-East. Syria, ISIS, Iraq, Iran, Russia... and we worry about a degree or two warmer a summer???

Here is a bigger question... Is "climate change" going to be fixed by a "nuclear winter"? We are sure as hell heading down that road...

"Climate change"?? Really?

Of the idiots, for the idiots, by the idiots...

Our founders would vomit...

Your biggest fear is nuclear war? The MIC is having adventures all over the place(Rochelle, Rochelle). Record amounts of money being funneled into weapons of war. Nonstop fighting and rebuilding everywhere..and the people who actually run this planet are making money hand over fist. Why would they mess that up by dropping nuclear weapons?

The only reason nations want nuclear weapons, or to keep the ones they have, is so that they are not invaded by other nations, NATO or the UN. No nation is itching to end the world(for no profit). That is the least likely scenario for mankind's end on this planet. IMO

Edit: Conventional warfare is the the goose that lays the golden egg. You profit from destroying and then profit from rebuilding and it is an endless cycle.

I would place..breathable air, clean drinking water, contaminated soil, modified food stuff and pesticides poisoning our food supply higher on the list of dangers than nuclear holocaust..even if you do not consider climate change a threat.

Edit 2: I read your post hastily. Perhaps you refer to the catastrophic failure of nuclear energy that is inevitable if we do n not make serious changes in the way we create usable energy.

OK... I am not sure what fumes that you may have been exposed to, however:

1. If you are near a window, open it IMMEDIATELY!

2. Breathe!

3. Turn off CNN immediately! You may have "Turner Classic Syndrome"... you believe that all disasters only happen in re-colorized black and white...

4. Reboot your computer in the following manner... stick a wet knife into the socket your machine is plugged into... to check for shorts...

5. When you see the bright flash on the horizon.... duck.

I haven't watched any broadcast news for over a decade. I don't watch TV. Sounds like you do though.

More predictable programmed doom porn from the Archon government agents.

Just laugh in the elitist's faces because they just have not got the balls to be real men.

i say to them, 'do it, go on, melt the ice caps with your scalar weaponry. Then the humans will have plenty of excuses to rip you to shreds'.

Demons / djinn / negative entities live off fear.

This is why the bland doom porn never changes.

I suppose climate change really is a national security threat if you look at all the money they will be unable to collect unless the world buys into the carbon tax program. However rest assured, If that program fails they will just come up with something else to feed their never ending appetite for any money you or your kids will ever earn.

I live in Jacksonville, Fl where one of our naval bases is stationed. Jacksonville's going to be partially submerged by 2050. After it floods, there obviously won't be a naval station.

So yeah, relatively threatening to national security.

There's also a nuclear reactor near Biscayne Bay, Fl (Turkey Point, grew up relatively close to it (Homestead, Fl)) with an Air Force base within the same vicinity. Homestead Air Force Base being a reserve base, I imagine they'll relocate there. Not really worried about Turkey Point, still ample time to relocate.

im sure most people dont care about the world they leave behind for their children, but some of us have this weird human emotion called empathy. if you'd understand what global warming is and how it's caused, then you wouldn't be making half-assed rhetorical jokes.

im not really calling you out op, just humanity in general.

I don't think you would have the Kyoto Protocol if the threat was bunk.

Enough of the debate.. the entire world can go solar right now. It is completely feasible.

Watch at 13 minutes -

Then everyone could just drive electric cars and we wouldn't have to worry.

For those who will complain that their Harley's won't make enough noise if they are electric - we can invent some sort of Harley Bike sound emulator.

Now you are just being a troll.

Climate change could make this planet hostile for our species. The fossil fuel industry knows the harm they are causing and they want you, the layman to not pay as attention to this because they would rather continue profiteering at the planet's expense.

We have a serious addiction to fossil fuel and our species and planet needs rehab.

Would you believe a heroin dealer if he told you rehab was nothing but a scam to take your money?

Why do so.many believe the opinion pieces sponsored by the fossil fuel industry that try to to tell us addressing human induced climate change is a scam to take your money( in the form of more taxes)?

Wow, silly me thought 200 trillion in unfunded liabilities, more automation, more outsourcing from the TPP, and a declining tax base resulting from more automation leading to an economic disaster would be the biggest. But hey that's down the road, who cares about the ugliness we put ourselves in and a bill coming due.

Our founders would vomit over the fact that we are wasting so many American lives and money (going into massive debt to do so) in order to fight a war that is not ours. Sorry to go off-topic, but if you're going to invoke the founders, please understand that the military was never intended to hop around the world engaging in battles that are not our fight.

The Middle East is somewhere that we need to vacate, not focus more on--at least not until a country from over there declares war on us...and even then, let them come here to fight. It'll end much more quickly that way.
