Putin was taken down by a military coup when he went missing a while back, his guard was re-assigned and that's why the power went out at the Kremlin during that period. Sergey Shoygu is running the show now.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't enticed by that period of time. Usually when a Russian leader goes off the grid it's bad news. That being said I doubt one of the most approved leaders by their own people would be overthrown by his own. I'll play Devils advocate and say the numbers may be inflated and we may have been the cause of said coup. Putin is a good leader and has the backing of his people, easy to say he is out of control but I assure you our leaders will step into Sovereign territory for our own interest, only difference is we always get away with it. I'm not Russian sympathetic but the only danger with Russia is not treating them like an equal in geopolitics.

NATO won't go to "war" over a "Turkey". Sleep in peace tonight. You think, this is Putin's first rodeo with idiots? Real Americans dream of such an "enemy". . Finally! An enemy to respect! I came into service during the "Cold War"..I do not "agree" with the man. But I so respect the man. ...

That's because they are not equals.

Yes they will.

Before we break out the doom porn we should wait to see if this incident is even real. I would assume if a shoot down occurred it would be breaking news and thus far nothing.

Is there anything talking about the reassignment? During that mess it was reported the bodyguard was actually killed.

Don't worry I'm in maniac mode right now and saying everything I wouldn't normally say but believe might be true. There is a small chance it's not true

We do not occupy this whole planet, and another country with rich culture and beating hearts are equal. While their ideology may not be your own, that is why you don't live there. They are equals and their actions and our lack of reactions prove it. In the past year they took Crimea who has a big security vantage for Russia with a risk of the lease running out. Don't tell me we never made brash moves, last time I checked we were and are in Cuba against their will and Iraq had very little blessings from the world.

Move it to hoax bin. You really think Russia would be quiet about this ? There is nothing about this in any of the turkish major outlets. What is wrong with ATS these days? You guys bored ? There is plenty going on in the world as it is,no need to make stuff up ffs

Russia shot down one of our SR-71s. Nothing really transpired. You sneak around in another man's yard and you may startle him, part of the game. Big if that it happened and even bigger if do we get informed. It will be swept away and apologized for.

Is this a serious post? Absolutely NATO would engage Russia directly in such a situation. Who uses nukes first is the real scary thought of Russia actually trying to project global power again.

It appears this is indeed false. A lot of twitter reports from inside turkey saying this is a hoax. Just relieved it is not real.

We all humor it may not have happened. Always take what you read with a grain of salt but Russian presence in Syria definitely evokes extra attention to try and minimize these types of exchanges in proxy wars. I've read things on here before well before it was announced by MSM, Dowling this is one of them but don't fool yourself that multiple major powers with different interests in the same area militarily and poor communication is a one way ticket to happy times.

So Hitler and Stalin were equals? I bet if you asked either one of them if they think so the answer would be absolutely not. I say this because of Russian foreign policy. All we need to do is look at some of the former SSR's that are still locked down by Russia (the kerplakistan nations come to mind) to see that Russia does not treat those nations as equals.

Respect is earned and not automatically present and many people on this site constantly bring that up when they are bashing the US.

Did Russia treat Georgia as an equal?
Did Russia treat Ukraine as an equal?

The very same argument can be made against the US and we all know this. Demanding to be treated as an equal when you don't practice what you preach becomes problematic.

So no, they are not equals.

That is correct, I was mistaken while thinking surveillance. SR-71 had a lot of speed making it close to if not impossible.

If true the world deserves to end. Full scale nuclear war over a bunch of backwards people who are actively committing genocide and in the case of Turkey has in the recent past as well as now if it's true they back of IS. Then the world deserves to burn.

They're equally dispised then for their forced projection of foreign policy, maybe we can agree on that.

I hope one day a rise in real patriotism and responsibility replaces BS nationalism and we can stop catering to corporate world and focus on our country. No foreign policy beats taking care of your country and then HELPING others. Russia is no saint but I believe we have to take care of our household before bashing another.
