That was Rush's ENTIRE POINT.

I read what he said even if you didn't. What was linked in the OP was Rush saying a whole lot of nonsense that had more to do with the announcement - not the movie. And some stuff about golf - and him being infallible :-)

Actually, it makes sense for NASA to try to piggyback mars-related PR on any and all political/social causes and media events (global warming, Hollywood) currently in vogue...whether they have any substance, or not.

NASA wants a mission to Mars...an expensive and very long-term aspiration which demands patience and sustained interest from the American public and policy makers. Since it may take another 25 years of sustained financing, planning and development, and with government budgets being what they are,...NASA needs to tie it's goals into any current political crusade which appears on the public awareness radar.

Global warming is currently a major obsession with this administration, therefore NASA PR will find a way to graft it's goals and funding to it as long as it's being championed as a political issue.

Both events mean very good things for NASA's planned foray to the Red Planet. It's one of the agency's longest-term projects, with no plans for astronauts on Mars until at least 2035—and maybe even decades later. That time frame is a challenge: How do you sustain public excitement, much less congressional funding, over a quarter century or more?

Rush is a right wing clown. Have you heard the intro to his show after the commercials? They paint him as a genius. He would have a GREAT job as a propaganda spewer in some dystopian future. He has the ability to spew constant shiat out of his mouth and attract a large scale audience. Just imagine if he had a government behind him that fully backed his nonsense.
