The first amendment wasnt written so people could say things that everyone liked and agreed with, it was made for speech that people didnt like or didnt agree with and to ensure people could speak freely.

And yet, common decency exists as a human value too. These concepts are not hard and are basically the first thing we as humans learn about social interaction.

free speech is also extended to those who have sensitive feelings and get offended, they can display their disgruntlement

common decency is a thing yes, but we cant possibly go through life keeping our mouths closed just in case someone somewhere doesnt like what i have to say, if you dont like it, say you dont like it then remove yourself from within earshot from me....simple

Great post! The only people who get offended are those that allow themselves.

Nailed it.

Don't even ask why they allow themselves.

Lot of effort for not much reward.

Wtf, are you even reading my posts or do you just project your own thoughts over me?

Nice language. Since you have said the term "anchor baby" is offensive and racist, now that I've cleaned up the verbage, what say you on the actual concept of coming to another country to impart a new citizenship to your unborn child?

I guess mere words DO make you angry.

What I am complaining about is stupid argument that people should not be offended when you say offensive things. I never said don't say offensive things, what I said was that if you can't understand why the things you are saying often offend people then maybe you should stop speaking.

Ah, so now you imply that we're too stupid to understand that what we're saying could be offensive? And if it is, then we should simply shut up.

That is the anti-thesis of free speech. Please find for me the part that says people have a right not to be offended.

Language is complicated I know, but this concept is very simple and I have explained it very well . When you say things you know that offend people, and they get offended, you are not th e good guy and a champion free speech.

Tell that to Larry Flynt. Penthouse is pretty offensive in a number of ways, and yet he is a free speech icon as are many other pornographers.

It seems to me to be a pretty interesting double standard our culture enjoys. But then, Flynt's brand of speech wasn't much about ideas that people might not like to hear about. It was only about vices that many people find to be pretty entertaining similar to how we want a more or less unregulated pot market all over the country, but no other market better operate without strict government oversight.

Basically, I think this whole idea of "offensive" is being banged like a cheap drum to try to shut down political speech all too often. It's a cheap end around on the 1st Amendment. If we can eliminate the words used to talk about an issue, then we can't talk about an issue.

Haven't you read 1984? Don't you know the origins of Newspeak?

Simple concepts that I know you know have been explained in this thread. Yet you continue to deny the validity of their existence in an effort to continue acting has if you're offensive language shouldn't be offensive because you don't find it offensive and therefore neither should anybody else.

uhuh, again show me all the vietnamese and mexicans calling for trumps head over what he said, instead of some whiney liberal reporter

I never claimed they were calling for Trumps head over this video. I said that some Mexican and Vietnamese find the use of the term offensive.

But in all reality, would it matter if I did provide sources? Earlier I provided a link to a source that shows the use of the word spade can be derogatory. After you laughed it off and claimed the source was junk, you then admitted that the source was correct anyway.

That's called being intellectually dishonest. Not only can I not provide the links you request considering how new this is, but you wouldn't be honest enough to accept them. IF you really wanted to know how the Mexican community in general feel about Trump, you can look to Univision cutting ties with Trump.

Supply and demand, if that means anything.
