I have no problem with fishing, if you eat what you catch, and release the remainder. The same with hunting. You kill it and eat it...fine. Kill an animal in self-defense...necessary.

But people who kill animals for trophies, or pleasure, I'm not down with that.

With respectful disagreement,
Olivine

Many people that would be outraged at this story have no problem dropping a deer, taking a pic and then leaving it to the wolves.

Hypocrisy is the point I'm trying to address here. I don;t like what happened in this case, but I laugh because we only become outraged when it pertains to certain animals.

Guess what? That deer you shoot isn't a family pet...Trained and loved by the entire family....Sport hunting and family pets don't belong in the same conversation....

Oh so that "logical" thinking will rationalize this crap for you? STOP....This is wrong, it was kids because adults wouldn't use the number 2 on a note, I would be gathering up the guns before leaving the house....

I am not trying to rationalize this. I'm trying to point out the hypocrisy in our positions and how our outrage is selectively applied.

In a society where every movie, tv show and video game seems to promote violence is this really so unexpected? We live in a sick world and kids fall victim to it all too often.

I agree the little face on the note makes me think it was some kids.

Yes, it can be changed but it takes years of learning to respect and honor other lives first.

Unfortunately unless the parents at home teach these values to their children they may never get them.

My sympathies to the dog and it's caretaker (I don't claim to "own" pets, we co-habitate).

I hope whoever did this gets help.

Do you respect personal property?

That animal belonged to someone else.

So apparently, you're okay with an individual taking something from someone else and destroying it?

I'm not ok with that. I'm trying to take the conversation bit deeper than "damn kids killed a dog" and talk about society, the connections we have with animals and the hypocrisy within.

Sometimes I forget that that many of us are more prone to emotional knee-jerk than myself. I try to think about things a bit deeper than most.

My apologies.

So you are not okay with someone stealing from you and destroying it.

Funny.

I thought you were a socialist!

You would think that, because you don't pay attention when we tell you what we actually believe and are very misinformed.

Now are we going to address the topic or are you trying to make my political position the subject when we are talking about a dog?

Damn, you never fail to make some irrelevant political point.

How is taking someones property and destroying it the same as going out into the woods and hunting deer?

There is no hypocrisy.

We are omnivores. We still have teeth that are structured for both meat and plant matter. We eat both in our diets, and to not eat meat is to consign yourself to a very carefully constructed diet or risk missing out on certain nutrients your body does in fact need and gets most easily from animal sources.

What you are is a moral relativist.

That is NOT hypocrisy dude....What aren't you getting here? I take it you have no family pets....NOT A CHANCE....That is a death sentence to most families out there....And it isn't a freaking deer in the woods, it is MINE not YOURS!

It does when someone has a position that a life is a life, is a life.

How can we be outraged at the taking of one animals life, and then load-up for the weekend to take another animal's life.

Are you following yet? It shouldn't be this hard.

I agree on the property issue. I'm talking about the life.

Why haven't you got that yet? Do I need to draw it out in crayon and cheerios?

Are we over-populated with Effing family dogs across the USA or something? Do you have any idea why hunting is allowed? POPULATION control of the wild animals....This dog was not a wild animal...

You failed your own argument when you said it was wrong to take someone else's property and destroy it.

Unless you want to go back and state that it is okay to take someone's property and destroy it.

I dunno with you.

So fare it appears that I'm not the only moral relativist.

The death of an animal is ok if were are not emotionally attached to it, correct?

I said from the beginning that was not the issue I wanted to address. I agree on that. I'm talking about life and it's value.

Quit trying to bob and weave. You know what I was talking about and fail to address it because you know damn well what I am doing.

The poster was trying to find an equivalent to abortion, apparently.

He's okay with killing unborn and small animals apparently.

(Hint, I wouldn't put that on a job application)
