I don't have a problem with protesting, but when it is done at funerals that is where it becomes a problem for me.

I'm right there with you. I don't like it, in the slightest.

But I think, as uncomfortable as this make us, we'd like the alternative even less. That's where my thinking takes me, anyway.

Sometimes the 1st amendment really does come back to bite us in the rear.

Yes, yes it does.

That, more than anything else, is what sets us apart from many other nations. There's a reason it's the First Amendment, right?

My sister-in-law's mother died from brain cancer. Watching her deteriorate because the mass was in an inoperable area, and watching her go through treatments that did nothing to it....It's a really awful way to watch someone go, and once it decides to pedal-to-the-metal it's progression, it's like greased lightning. One week, she was in serious pain, but alert, able to hold conversations, do things. The next, immobile, unable to speak, eat, not really able to move her fingers & toes much, etc. I feel for the guy, it's a horrible disease to watch eat away away at a person

I cannot imagine the amount of grief this man is enduring right now. It's horrible losing just one kid, but now two? I really do feel for Mr. Biden and I hope he will be recover from the loss soon.

I absolutely hate those people. I usually try not to hate people but hate their actions instead. In their case, I hate them, they're insensitive, cruel, mean and all purposefully. What a bunch of evil beings. They can all go to hell and stay there. My real wish is that karma comes back on them and kicks them in the heart.....if they have one.

Why would this Westboro Church want to picket his funeral? I thought Westboro Church folk only had issues with the Gay community and their burials.. Was his son gay..?

I'd show you the signs they want to picket with to give you the gist of their plan but it'd probably be removed for T&Cs against obscene imagery and the like.


Let's just say they have one that calls him an "enabler" of the LGBT community...
Another that says "Don't mourn the dead"...
Another about soldiers...

& a nasty one that says "God sent the cancer".


Basically they've lowered the bar even by their own standards.

Oh my god, I didn't even realize Westboro was that bad.. how deceptive, and disfigured.. It's quite sad actually..

I am all for law enforcement to take Westboro Baptist members into protective custody before these funerals... for their own safety. When the funeral is over with they are free to leave.

Everything bad that happens here in the US, or the world, is because of the support of equal rights for gays. God's punishment, if you will.

Funeral set for Saturday at our church ... St. Anthony's in Wilmington DE
It's a church with a K-8 school attached.

WDEL - Biden Funeral Set

Obama will be there.

The area is all set up for the Italian Festival.
It happens every year and is a big event in town.
The secret service are going to have a hard time.
The booths are up .. the fences .. the rides .. the games .. the food tents.

I have not heard about the Westboro Baptist church coming to town.

When Bidens mother died, everyone showed up.
The motorcade was about 1/3 a mile from the house.
All the Bidens, The Obamas, Pelosi, members of Congress ... all of 'em.
Looks like they'll be here again on Saturday for a 10:30 mass.

A very long day for the poor guy, and his family.

...and the pessimist in me says, photo ops for everyone else.

The part of town the funeral will be in is very blue collar. It's 'little italy' in Wilmington. The roads are narrow and the houses kinda city poor. The Italian festival is all set up. (that goes for two weeks with the culmination being on the Feast of St. Anthony).

If you watch the funeral, you'll see our church.
It's a nice old style Catholic church. Lots of side altars and candles.
Old world style.


I feel so bad for the Vice President. He's buried a wife and now two children. No matter how old the child is, the child will always be 'a child' to the parent. The article didn't say where the burial will be.

So Westboro WILL be here tomorrow to picket the Biden funeral at my church.
So do I go and join the counter protest?
Or ignore them and the less attention they get the better?

Either ignore them, or tazer them till they go insane. Either total placidity, or total carnage. Occupying the grey space between, counter protest without pick axe handles, will achieve little.
