I think over the top gimmicks to let the United States and the world know how divisive racism is as a good thing. The problem I'm having with it is that there's chance for violence. I'm willing to storm that myself but how about children and older people? There can only be good coming from things like this. It will show that we are all human. The violent people must be dealt with without the government protecting them. This means the out of control police officers and the violent rioters.

The hate groups must go away, not today but yesterday. They should be brought up on charges for inciting a riot. The leadership in our government needs to stay off the golf course and address the violence. Not some 2 minute speech either. We as a nation went backwards in civil rights. It's time to go forward.

What I don't want to see is a civil war or a race riot in every major city. I have had friends from all colors of the spectrum and I will not condemn one color over the few that use violence and hate. There's a fine line there that doesn't need to be crossed. I will defend myself from violence but I will not resort to violence on an innocent person. I'm sure we can all agree on that.

I know this is out of character for me. I'm hot headed and jump somethings to conclusions but this is how I feel deep down. I know this to be true because it has that ring to it. We all want to live in peace. We all want a part of the American Dream. Wanting is not enough. You need to go out there and get it.

Well then, no more NAACP, no more united negro college fund, no more affirmative actions programs(that actually discriminate against other minorities in favor of blacks).

Let the black community stand on its own 2 feet for once.

This is the root of the issue here.

Blacks want to be "more equal".

You don't hear any other race crying about all this nonsense constantly, just the blacks.

Take away their privileged status, and let us all be equal.

That is what racism is all about in america. Blacks.

It seems here that an American businessman (of Mexican descent) has decided to offer a counter to the Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month by creating a single day in his BBQ restaurant to celebrate "White American's". He is now being inundated with allegations of racism over it all.

Crazy for the owner of the establishment to take on a political issue like this. That is an entire issue all by itself...

That said, I would like to take this ATS thread in a "what-if" scenario of discussing making an official "White American's Day" possible, sans the discounts. If we can have the state and federal govt openly acknowledge the Black and Hispanic communities contributions to the American experience, then why can we not do the same for "White American's" as well?

...because the entire concept of white, Hispanic, First Nations People, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Irish, Scottish, English, German and African history being fragmented from American history is counter-productive. It causes more division instead. It creates unnecessary thought processes to be entertained and ignorant entrepreneurs to do such things as in the OP story.

The part of your quote above in bold screams a partisan mindset.

Why does one feel the need to divide America into those categories such as "Black America, White America, Hispanic America"?


Perhaps that is the problem right there?

Perhaps the whole concept is rooted in racism and bigotry and therefore flawed from the start?

There is a difference between being patriotic and being patronized...

They are acting like the black lewis and Clark are just omitted, when in fact there just wasn't one.

Sorry black history didn't play a very big role in american history.

It just a fact, white people did most of it.

the real issue about the black situation is covered up by ignorance regarding medical issues relating to physical, mental and emotional problems. poverty breeds physical, mental and emotional issues. so does extreme wealth and power. these two are f'in dangerous when they form an united front, because they are both suffering with medical problems that need to be addressed but are not, because it's advantageous to the very rich, to keep the very poor, poor. they are, afterall, control freaks.

I'm not saying concede to the ignorant. I'm saying come together with those who are not. We all win that way. Fighting and one upping don't do # to change anything. Find the things that unite us instead of those that divide. The ignorant will be put in their place with truth and another way to look at the situation.

What great deeds did non white females play in american history?

We should not omit great deeds done by people simply because most of the truly great deeds of the time were done by white men.

If you can name any great deeds done by non white or just females in particular that aren't taught already I would be behind you.

But sadly Lewis and Clark were white. Washington was a white man so was Lincoln.

You are acting like washington was a black woman and they just rewrite history to exclude that.

When in reality, most of the history worthy deeds of those times were accomplished by white men.

it wasn't what you personally said, it was your quote of annee, which i disagreed with on the premise that it was totally illogical to suggest white dominance in a mostly white country was somehow evidence of racism. racism existed and exists, we know that, but we were healing, dammit, and some jerkoffs decided to take it right back into the same bull# we escaped from. i bet you the people promoting that mindset are the same darwin award people who thought it was okay to buy and sell slaves. George washington carver is already taught about in history class, extremely intelligent black man, gave us all one of the worlds trust gifts, peanut butter.

I learned about the great deeds of many non white and female historical figures in school, and ony own.

You are assuming things aren't taught, when they are.

There are just not near as many for non whites or females as there are for white men.

Because in those times white men did most things.

Don't forget that most races, ethnicity, and religions have all been persecuted and forced into slavery at one time! Why would ever be so naive to think all "white" people don't deserve a "month"? American white people aren't all evil "British/Spanish slave owners! What about the "Australians, Russians, Canadians, Irish just to name a few! If someone/some ethnicity, some race isn't happy with America and black history, Hispanic heritage, and perhaps a white history month, should purchase a globe or go back to where you came from! You are just pissing into the wind!!! Grow up read a book!

I didn't suggest that dominance is evidence of racism. Racism is evidence of racism. There is a history of white dominance in our country, meaning whites were DOMINANT over other races. We kept them as slaves. We (people of this country) were VERY racist. Like it or not, that's how it was. And institutionalized racism TODAY is a part of that. We ARE healing. But we're not healed. We haven't escaped from anything. We don't live in a post-racial society. You're fooling yourself if you think that.
