Hi all, I only registered this evening after months of procrastination and indecision. Just shouting out to anyone who thinks it is too late, it's not, but it will be in 3 and a half hours or so.

The link is below, it takes a couple of minutes, you just need your name, date of birth, national insurance number, blah:
Register to vote online at the .gov.uk site

Sorry for the crap discussion topic and facebook style OP, wanted to share this in case just one person reads it and realises they are not too late this evening if they thought they were.

Cheers,

GoS.

I only registered late last week and only because my daughter reminded me.

Is this the only way people can register to vote?

Haha, similar to me.
The official national deadline is close of business today at council offices or midnight tonight online.
I'm not sure what the deal is if you turn up tomorrow demanding registration with your passport/ID in hand, but I'm assuming it will be the hand of council security guards on your shoulder.
It is why I left it until this evening, and wish to share it here to Brit members of ATS.

*Bump*
Two and a half hours left if you wanna register to be able to vote in the May General Election.
www.gov.uk...
I say do it, even if all you do is draw a comedy cock on the ballot paper...it is your only chance to have your two penneth for the next 5 years...unless we have a referendum on EU membership or just trader friends of course.

Oh gawd.

Purely out of interest, who did you vote for and why?

Great resource, already registered but never knew this existed. Thanks for the links.

Also bumped for importance of voting.

Ah no, I haven't voted yet, I chose the 'vote in person' tickbox lol.
I'll probably choose not to work that day and instead stroll over, hang about, and shamelessly grill a few candidates/supporters after a nice lay-in.
I'm looking forward it, regardless if my vote makes # all difference.

Ohmygosh if you really did remember to register from seeing this thread then I'm well glad I posted it.
Nice one

I have no idea if we will vote similar mindsets, but I'm glad you have not missed your choice to vote.

Well when you put it like that, it doesn't seem so bad lol. I'd be up for some shameless grilling of the candidates!

I can't vote for someone I know is lying about most things in their manifesto, though. I just can't bring myself to do it.

You registered then?
I care more about your right to vote more than who you vote for.

...I look forward to the discussions here on ATS as the election approaches.

On election night I think I'll drink myself into a coma and ignore TV and Internet. The result is going to be profoundly depressing no matter who wins.

Brace yourself for another 5 years of eroded freedoms and scandalous corruption being brushed under the rug.

You have to "register" to use your RIGHTS?

Over here we don't have to do anything at all, its given to us automatically.

Even when I move around Europe, I'm automatically given voting rights, I don't have to register at all, except as a resident. And I am not even a citizen of those countries! lol

WTF? Register?

You know your government doesn't give a rats if they can't even be bothered to have a well run system of knowing who can vote without demanding the people register every time they have to vote.

Voter registration is common in many 'democracies'.

en.wikipedia.org...

Just your usual antagonistic type of post with the apparent single purpose of trying to wind people up.

My my aren't you the troublesome one lol.
We are more free due to having the choice to register or not.
I have chosen not to since 1997 and tonight I changed my mind.

...JUST OVER ONE AND A HALF HOURS LEFT IF ANYONE WISHES TO VOTE IN THE 2015 GENERAL ELECTION JUST CLICK THE LINK IN THE OP.
