Study Claims 80% of Tor Traffic Related to Child Abuse

as the debate over anonymity on the net heats up here and elsewhere, i guess we gotta look at what's being protected vs. what's being sacrificed.

...Sites with child abuse material only account for two percent of the sites on the dark net, but for 83 percent of visits. This means child abuse sites are browsed five times as often as other sites with other types of content examined during the study relating to drugs, bitcoin, whistle blowing, and gambling.

it might seem like the old "think of the children" argument whipped out for # like drugs and guns, but seriously. the high volume of traffic means the darknet isn't just serving as a venue for the vile #s who consume cp, it's creating the #ing market.

what do you think ats? is it worth it? what about alternative solutions to nuking tor, such as craftier detection/enforcement?

Nuke tor and they will just find a alternative route for there sick deeds. Child abuse has been around long before the internet was ever invented.

Best to keep it were they know it is and try and hunt down the site hosters.

Instead of wasting resources on getting the drug markets they should put all LE into tracking these down.

if the darknet were no longer an option, mail-share and p2p would probably see an increase. you'd still see a reduction in volume, and therefore in victims.

I knew someone that worked helping people getting out of human trafficking.

Some of the stories are just heart breaking. And oddly enough there are some cases where women buy other women for their men. It's not just men who are the bad guys.

It's better to infiltrate these sites and find who is going to them and uploading content than just shutting them down.

These sites only exist for one purpose, that is to hide illegal activity. The idea of maintaining privacy is just a joke.

We need more people who hunt down pedophiles, set up and film them. then put it online for everybody to see and send the footage to the police.

i have a barbaric stance on this and would be more than happy to see people who commit these disgusting crimes hanged, stoned to death, amputated or just any kind of slow horrible death.

But if there wasn't so many stupid laws there would not be any illegal activity to hide except the REAL crimes like child abuse.


As long as there are ridiculous like attack on free speech and the war on drugs then the dark net is needed.

Sometime governments need there power surpassed.

Who exactly gets to decide which crimes are "real" crimes? The people committing those crimes?
Who do you trust enough to handle that responsibility?
