This is the 40,000th earthquake in Japan in 2015, a few days ago.

I have also recently added 13,549 new events from July 1979-Dec 1981 from the NIED Kanto-Tokai observation network, which was integrated with the NIED Hi-net on April 2006.
I did the pages/maps by the month, as there wasn't that many per day to justify a seperate map for each day.
1980-81 average of 480-490 per month events were recorded, versus 2015's 5,281/month average.

They are near the end of the pie's, easiest way down is to use the arrow down rather than the bar.

I just got really bummed out. I was going my way thru the days, and all of a sudden it said that I have a block for pop up or something and it wouldn't let me play anymore.

I am not gonna loosen up my security on my compter to see anything.

Did I not click something right, or is that what it wants?

yeah that did the same for me, it just started yesterday.
just ignore it and click on the "close" word on the bottom right corner of the popup and things will continue as normal.
The popup I got said I had AdBlockPlus, which I do, to be able to read other pages on the Internet without all to advertising.
I'm wondering if it had to do with posting the NZTopo maps of the whole years with 5000+ icons, its the first time I have used NZTopo for that many icons. Looks to me like a NZTopo advert. to raise funds for the service itself.
Being a free service I think that's OK they throw an ad. in, but as I say, just close it.

Note: "Please consider adding NZ Topo Map to the whitelist of your ad blocker."
I'll give it a try and see if it gets rid of the ad. popup, and let you know.
Seems things on the Internet are always free just long enough so that you get used to it and hooked on the layout, before they change things and make you pay eg, Google Classic maps earlier this year, now NZTopo?

OK, There is no "white list" on AdBlockPlus, but I was on nzeq2015.blogspot.co.nz... and the popup is coming on there too, it is only on the NZTopo part of the maps. I clicked "Disable on nzeq2015.blogspot.co.nz" on my AdBlockPlus dropdown menu and it stopped the adverts. on all the pages, I can flick through using the left and right arrows at the top left of the map pages, seems to work OK. There may just be something you have to click on yours. What a PITA, I know myself that if I have to do anything special to read a Web page I usually give it a miss and move on. Having said that I had 155 hits on NZ2015 yesterday, the highest daily number for ages, and 75 today already.
Seems to have attracted more readers rather than discourage them. "shrugs shoulders"

BTW did you notice I changed the magnitude 3 icon from Grey to Teal?
I did that last weekend, ahead of something else I was doing mapping, then I dumped the project, but liked the Teals so much I kept it.
Only problem is the Pies still show Grey for M3. I haven't got the time to go through and redo hundreds of Pies.

As far as Japan goes, I am managing to do a year each day, but I can't do it every day, its just in my spare time. If the average is 5000 a year up till 2002, that will add another 100,000 icons, or 260 monthly pages, or maps, incl. the yearly summaries. From 2002-2015 I have no idea how many there are per year, obviously it will vary year to year, but based on a sample of April 2013, which had 7,600 events, there is the potential over the 13 years for there to be 1,185,600 more events to add, or 4,745 more daily pages .......... I think NZTopo might crash by then.
I'm also having a bit of trouble with the "Labels" or "Categories" at the monent on the Blogger Template, but you can get those by clicking on one of the Labels below the map on the page you want, eg, if you just want 1981 click on that, or use the search. I may have to write instructions on the Navigation Page if I can't get it fixed.

Thanks for the reply.

I will go back over and try what you suggested.

As far as the color shades, I can understand them ok.

I wouldn't go back and change it. If I am paying attention to what I am looking at, I can figure that out.

Good. Let me know how it works out.
I just switched from NZ2015 to japanqaukes here and I had to go into AdblockPlus to click the 'disable on japanearthquakes" , so it looks like you have to do it for each site. Once its selected it works, as long as you stay on the site.
Works on ATS too, same deal.

Just started 1982 this morning, came across this one

Lat/Long: 43.2664, 144.2669
UTC: 21/03/1982 02:31:41
JST: 21/03/1982 11:31:41
Depth: 5
Mag: 8.0 ML
Location: KUSHIRO REGION, HOKKAIDO
Energy Released: 15,080,242.4589 tonnes of TNT
Source: NIED Kanto-Tokai observation network Status: reviewed

I was expecting a heap of aftershocks from that, becasue it was on land, but because in the early days the Kanto-Tokai observation network was basically restricted to the SE of Honshu, it didn't get any smaller events up there in Hokkaido. They did get the big ones though, across the whole Japan region, thats why I thought it worthwile to Archive them on the maps.
Interesting to see the difference between then 40 years ago and since the 2011 M9.0, lots of activity around Hokkaido, but E OFF FUKUSHIMA PREF, FAR E OFF SANRIKU etc still featured, so the 2011 monster wasn't something completely surprising.

Yeah its bloody annoying.
I started off again this morning on japan and I had to go through the routine again.
I put a note on the Navigation Page, as follows.
Note:
As of 23/8/2015 NZ Topo Map are posting a popup notice referring to Ad Block Pro being installed and the text "Many free services like NZ Topo Map rely on advertising revenue to cover their ongoing hosting and bandwidth costs. NZ Topo Map itself costs about $200 / month to run. Please consider adding NZ Topo Map to the whitelist of your ad blocker." You can either go to Ad Block Pro and tick "disable on japanquakes.blogspot.co.nz" in which case adverts will show, but the maps will open without the notice, or just click the "close" text on the map popup notice, and the popup will go away and adverts will not show. You will need to do this on each map as you view it though.

Since I started the Yearly Summary and the Years Timeline Graphs I have seen the clusters of multiple quakes, so decided to do some individual pages about those.
I already had done one on Far E Off Sanriku 16-21 Feb 2015,
and now have done Far East Off Ibaraki Prefecture, 21-31 July 1982
currently working on Far E off Miyagi Pref 19-23 Jan1981 now
They are either large events with a lot of aftershocks, or a Swarm with multiple 5s or 6's.

If you are in Flipcard view, you can spot them by the large Grey M3 segments in the Pies.
If there are more as I go, I'll post them.

Just doing some reading tonight, and came across this article.

This is interesting for earthquake science. They will be able to do alot of study since this is in a nonpopulated area.

Thanks for the post. It reminded me to take a look at the recent movements of the New Madrid. Now I'm wondering if a local (to our house as far as I know) phenomenon might have been caused by quakes.
We have outdoor security cameras on the back of the house to watch the night life out there. We have at least 6 coons, as many possums, skunks, deer, turkey, foxes and a neighborhood tom cat that make their way through the back yard on a nightly basis. Beginning on Monday night the back yard was deserted even though there was food left out for the critters. The only critters seen on camera---day or night---were our cats and one juvenile possum. Not even a squirrel to be seen in the daytime!
Tonight, just an hour so so ago, one fox appeared and grabbed some food and took off.
It's very strange to see an almost complete absence of life out there for such a long period of time. The series of quakes on the New Madrid could explain it I guess. It might also explain the grumpiness and spooked behavior of the cats.

49 aftershocks

not a biggie, but when I seen the 2.8 and the 2.6 popup after it had seemed to settle down .................

Still, if you had just under a kiloton of TTNT go off just 34km from your home (Takanabe in this case) ............. worth a look
