The language belongs to us. We will use it however we wish too.

I suggest you consider that the use of ETA is context sensitive.

Sometimes it can mean Estimated time to arrival and sometimes is means edit to add.

There are other things it could stand for.

Extra Terrestrial Arachnids possibly.

Context is a very important thing.

If someone writes ETA to mean one thing, such as edit to add, that's what it means. It means whatever someone wants it to given the current situation.

Some people still wrote lol to mean lots of love. Sure, most people know it as something different, but that doesn't mean the original is wrong.

Everyone else on the planet will just assume you don't know any better and when you die so will your acronyms.

acronyms like ETA are not very context sensitive as they are internationally known generally as one thing, owning a language is one thing but making up excuses or reasons for misuse or lack of knowledge rather then learning from a mistake is sad.

Actually in forum speak, ETA has meant, Edit To Add for years.

Language evolves and is mostly colloquial, based on the community you are in, and where that community is located.

So, on ATS, ETA means Edit to Add.
