Here's some more info for those wondering about where damage may have been, power outages, rock slide, water main breaks.....

www.usatoday.com...
"Southern California Edison reported power outages to nearly 2,000 customers following the quake.

The quake triggered a rockslide that closed Carbon Canyon Road in northern Orange County near the center of the quake, the California Highway Patrol and Brea police reported. The rockslide caused a car to overturn, and the people inside the car sustained minor injuries.

Up to 50 people have been displaced because due to housing damage, the Orange County Register reported.

Seven water leaks, including a broken water main in Fullerton, not far from the center of the quake, were attributed to the temblor, the Register reported. Other minor structural damage was reported in Brea, La Habra and Buena Park......."
Keep safe!

CBS Los Angeles ‏@CBSLA 25m
#BREAKING The quake has been downgraded to a 5.3. Quake felt all over the Southland, including Dodger Stadium, Orange County.

I saw this map this vid starts with and the concentric rings of the quake and got shivers and cold to my core. This looks to be spot on the area I "saw" in some weird happenings in my life about 9/10 years ago...I collated that stuff here on Ats, most of it anyway, and wrote this:

.....impresions of each view of the map being left in my mind wordlessly. I am standing. I saw what I feel is the USA. I saw the area off the coast of Tijuana and Mexica, there is an arm jutting out from the mainland, it was pointing one way, then turned completely upside down. It was not where it was suposed to be. I saw the ground opening up..like a zipper right across the US...'popping'...From left to right....an unraveling and merging..of new and of ancient plates that exist underneath close to the water and magma. Thunder underground...a zipper effect 'coast to coast'. Soon after, riots in Los Angeles. Apologetic energies. The event appears to be an unavoidable consequence. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

That spot these rings are on is the location I saw, that is the 'arm' jutting out...where it is now I saw it appear 'turned upside down' and the only thing I can think of that might even get close to doing that besides a massive EQ too massive for mind ( and science ) to bend around, is a volcano or series of volcanoes....

It was only a few weeks ago I started to get gut on this area again and wrote my last post there...damn this gives me the heebies....how far up from there is Oregon? I 'saw' a big sinkhole opening up off the coast there too..any seismic activity in that area lately?

Common sense should tell people that sharing apocalyptic dreams and visions, or lectures on where people choose to live, is not appropriate during an earthquake.
That's like telling ghosts stories at bedtime to a child who's afraid of the dark.

It looks like folks in Cali are dealing with some pretty steady aftershocks. I hope people had stocked up on water to get them through while the water mains are being repaired! ( And maybe a little jug of 'something' to spike their tea with?

Thanks. I am at work unable to watch news or anything, and freaking out.
My father lives on Carbon Canyon Road, in a house perched on a dangerous slope.
I called them and they are okay but their pets are going nuts.
keep up the updates guys, please!

It's a blessing in a way that you are at work, and hopefully, busy!
My mother lived in L.A. during the big one in the late '80's, and I couldn't get a hold of her for two days. All I could do was watch the news coverage and pray. Scary times!

*rolls yes* well if you would like to continue to treat perfectly capable adults as poor little children you go right ahead.
I'm perfectly happy conversing with the adults here, those having both the brains and the intuitive insight to determine potential/probability and fact for themselves in order to make assessments for their own minds adjudication. I posted on this as it is a post about the issue of subsurface volcanism in the area, not just about the minor quakes there now.

Don't come here decrying nanny state America and then demand people ignore your own personal responsibility to think for your damn self and expect ppl to tred on eggshells for you. Grow tf up...and if you can't do that then you are in the wrong place. I am as entitled as anyone to post on any subject and I had a strong reaction to this one..so I posted.. get over it.

You might want to re-read (or read!) ATS T&C.Personal attacks , foul language/references are not allowed.

When people are in the middle of a burning building, that is not the time to have a safety meeting and discuss fire prevention, nor is it the time to get out a can of gasoline.

I'm sure the people in California would appreciate any words of support you might have for them.

This is not a therapy site nugget and my reply to you was to your personal attack which was poorly couched behind prettier words. I just called a spade a spade out of respect. My post to the OP was responding to the subject if HIDDEN VOLCANOES near LA....and if you have a prob with that take it up with the OP...or go start a support group for people living in earthquake zones thread.

I have every faith in the people of LA, that they have brains, they 'get' it and that they can haul ass if they need to.
They dont need me petting their heads and feeding their sense of powerlessness and if they do, well they need more help and support then I can give them.

Frankly, yes its scary as hell to live through nature events, but if you live in an active EQ zone and HAVEN'T prepared? Then your an idiot...shrugs. Not personal..just stating it. I live in a flood zone , same deal. Survival is not just whats in your physical grab bag its how you prepare mentally too...and most times it comes down to being a case of "help yourself to help yourself" and you dont need and shouldn't wait for mamma's permission to do so....the capacity for self soothing is a valuable asset to have in your 'emotional grab bag' and hang on to in a crisis.

My apologies. I thought you were sharing some sort of apocalyptic channeled/dream/premonition information.
I don't know how I missed it being factual information on the geography of California, but I did.
Once again, my apologies.

Mine was a post about things I have seen, just not in the way you thought. Ive been trying to rule it/what I saw out as a potential and to figure out how what I saw might occur or if it could for years. EQ's didn't cut it, so the OPs insight was valuable as relates to that potential and yes that gave me heebies. Sometimes the only shield we have left to feel safe is to think it 'cant possibly happen because....xyz..." You weren't wrong just didn't see the context of my post while you were busy judging it. I dont accept insincere apologies..if it was sincere then fine. This is my last post on it anyway so go for it...support away!

Good luck LA..wishing all a safe bed....or Valium!

Thanks for responding to my earlier posts. Don't know why the other posters largely ignored me expect fir one other who at least noticed what i was trying to say.

Still no one felt any quake in my neighborhood. I'm going with the theory posted here by another member earlier in the thread of the possibility that the S wave bounced around the basin in such a way that my neighborhood was in a area where the wave was " phased out"

My neighborhood however is riddled with underground springs. The high school a block away ( university high school). Has a caltec survey station on the campus for earthquakes. Or something similar. Oh yeah and the la times did an article a month or so ago about a brand new condo built literally 200 feet away from my apt that sits on some fault line. So I think it's really strange no one here felt anything.

On a up note when the earthquake happened ( which I wasn't feeling). I was watching Star Trek the next generation. Just rented a couple of DVDs from season 6 earlier that evening. Was watching the episode " the quality of life". Just thought that was a neat coincidence since you we're watching Star Trek voyager at the same time

Again thanks for responding to my earlier posts.

I would not worry. Since 1989, California hasn't gotten a destructive quake. I think that quake let off so much energy that all its got left is 5.5s maximum. Good news for you west coast folks.

I should be a scientist and be given a scientific award for my theory

Wow. Total lol.

Gardener turned this OP from one comment on a simple earthquake into volcanism under LA? That video wasn't there before. That's moving the goalposts pretty far there buddy.

The Salton Sea is 250 km away from this activity. And the magma chamber under Salton does not begin to even reach that far.

Oh boy.

My spouse and I were in a movie theater watching Divergent when we felt our seats moving and a vent on the ceiling started rattling. I was like "earthquake?" as we sat there and decided, yep, and went on with our movie. I don't even think most of the people in the theater noticed. Granted we were on the other side of the mountain range from the quake.

This is my 4th quake I've felt in a month out here. We certainly are in a new pattern! They've have climbed in size each time also. Hmmm.

en.wikipedia.org...

The Salton Sea and surrounding basin sits over the San Andreas Fault, San Jacinto Fault, Imperial Fault Zone, and a "stepover fault" shear zone system. Geologists have determined that previous flooding episodes from the Colorado River have been linked to earthquakes along the San Andreas Fault. Sonar and other instruments were used to map the Salton Sea's underwater faults during the study. During the period when the basin was filled by Lake Cahuilla, a much larger inland sea, earthquakes higher than magnitude 7 occurred roughly every 180 years, the last one occurring within decades of the year 1700. Computer models suggest the normal faults in the area are most vulnerable to deviatoric stress loading by filling in of water. Currently, a risk still exists for an earthquake of magnitude 7 or 8. Simulations also showed, in the Los Angeles area, shaking and thus damage would be more severe for a San Andreas earthquake that propagated along the fault from the south, rather than from the north. Such an earthquake also raises the risk for soil liquefaction in the Imperial Valley region.

Quakes caused by FILLING IN OF WATER? hmmm that sounds an awful lot like what oil fracking around the San Andreas and/or Puente Hills fault may have done by now over the decades (filled in water).

I felt the jiggling for about 10-15 secs, mainly from seeing the coffee cups swaying in their holder in the kitchen. Our dog slept thru it. Didn't feel anything before or after.
