Got a message for aliens? Get it on NASA's Pluto-bound spacecraft

Horizons

HOUSTON — A group of renowned scientists, engineers, artists and others need your help to send a message into the universe aboard a spacecraft bound for Pluto.

NASA's New Horizons mission — launched toward Pluto in 2006 — should be carrying a self-portrait of humanity when it flies into interstellar space in about 30 years, according to Jill Tarter, SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute co-founder; Jon Lomberg, the design director of the golden record containing sounds and images from cultures on Earth flying with the Voyager spacecraft; and other researchers.

To that end, the diverse group of space fans have created a petition — called the New Horizons Message Initiative — asking NASA officials to upload a yet-to-be-determined crowdsourced message from humanity onto the New Horizons craft after its encounter with the Pluto system. [13 Ways to Find Intelligent Alien Life]

I read this earlier today and thought by now someone would have posted it. I did a quick search and came up with nothing.

Anyhoo. I thought this was rather interesting. To be honest I find it rather odd that so many here who follow NASA at ATS will still scoff at the idea of 'Aliens' meanwhile, NASA themselves have put messages on other spacecraft in the past for 'Aliens' *if it is ever discovered by another race of beings that is...

What would you like to say?

A message from MDDoxs to Aliens,

Dear beings not of our planet, If at the time of your reading this, your own technological development exceeds our own, be cautious as we are likely to attempt to capture, take-advantage or out right attack you. If at the time of your reading this, your own technology is comparable or less sophisticated then our own, be cautious as we are likely to attempt to capture, take-advantage or out right attack you.

Sincerely 1 in 7 billion.

Don't come here. Better places to see, and things to do.

Sincerely.

An earthling.

P.S.

If you do come here. Can I hitch a ride ?

And get off this rock ?

Thanks Safe travels.

Last time they added tweets to some space thingy I said "Avoid humanity at all cost. We're assholes. Trust me". I dont think there's anything more I need to add to that.

Currently this is for a petition and donations. Your title is somewhat misleading. But a good post nonetheless.

Well, I don't know.. What would I want to say? ... What would we like to find on a probe from another planet?

I suppose if we want to lead them to First Contact, we'd give an address back to this solar system by whatever the best means may be and welcoming messages. Then again, if we want to send them off on a wild goose chase? Where is a distant suspected black hole? That's where we live!

...and perhaps it's all silly because if they're advanced enough to capture our probe someday, we can probably assume they have math advanced enough to plot trajectories and figure the point we sent it from...

So how about just "Please come in peace ...and don't mind the morons. They're a minority!"

I think I would ask them the same age old questions that we all want to know... why are we here, where did we come from, who/how were we created? What is the purpose/meaning of life? I've wanted answers to those questions since I was nine years old. I am still waiting to know for 100 percent sure with one answer only, not all the theories.
