as were the remaining Maya civilization. the Spanish didn't start their decline, they just finished it along with several other tribes.

So what's the problem here? In 2 months all the myths will come to an end when nothing happens. And the Mayans can partake in whatever other activities Mayans do today... like engaging in trade with the locals (running casinos) or being "one with nature" (drinking beer).

Dec 22nd will be the "i told you so day", then it will slowly wind down until the doom and gloom crowd decide on our new day of rapture/ascension/destruction.

I personally don't beleive in any prophesies or predictions unless I make them, and fortunately I happen to know the real truth about the end of the world. It seems pretty obvious to me that world will end on March 31st, 2013 because that's when MY calendar ends. Yes, I'm talking about the 15-month calendar that my girlfriend got me for X-mas (not Christmas - see Futurama) last year with pictures of cute little kittens doing cute little kitten things. Please spread the word - let everyone know when the world is ending, and send them my way. I'll show them the calendar that really predicts the end of the world for a mere $20. If, for some insanely improbable reason I'm wrong, I'll get a new calendar on April 1st and that one will most definitely have the correct end-of-the-world date.

It actually reminds me of exploitative commercialization of things Christian in Jerusalem..I imagine vendors and the like there in Israel are similarly capitalizing on End Times (Prophecy and Apocalypse and Armedegon) Calendar issues as well;

I could see how this could be misconstrued to mean what people fear it to mean...civilization and society are so far away from nature; and stuck into their own made up world, of creations wrought from their minds...that a catastrophe is the only way humanity could ever; be back in a balance with nature...
