Clam eats Salt---- And why i will not eat Shellfish

The sea creature's 'tongue' slowly creeps out of the shell and taps down on the table, elongating till it is nearly a full body-length away
Though this is not the clams tongue it is its foot
But that does not make it any less minging
And why i won't eat shellfish

Despite the visual 'evidence,' clams do not eat salt, they eat tiny plants and animals that float around in water using their siphons, or straw-like appendages.

Clams are really good, and so easy to prepare! Throw in a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and I am a happy camper!

I read somewhere that the clam was actually trying to dig a new hole to fall in and not in fact eating salt. One thing I am sure of is that is freaky to watch.

You only think this way because you are not used to it. If you grew up amongst clams and one day you saw a cow, you would think it's hideous, weird and disgusting.

Why torture the poor thing?

Honestly, whoever made this video was torturing that poor clam. It looked to me like it was recoiling from the salt, not eating it. Direct contact to a membrane type animal by salt is hurtful. Have any of you ever salted slugs on a back step? A slug is a snail like animal without a shell. When you throw salt on them they dry up and die. I could stand to watch the video after the animals second recoil from the salt. That little test probably damn near killed it.

I think there is a lot to be said for not knowing how sausage is made, how they get all that into the hot dog, or where my Thanksgiving turkey was between his gobble gobble time in the farm yard and my oven.

I'd never had clams...but after that? Ugh..I never will. I agree about tormenting it....Even a simple life form bothers me when pain or torment is for amusement. Something really wrong about that.

This is actually cruel.

The clam uses its foot to bury itself, it is trying to dig into mud that isn't there and getting burned by the salt.
