While not against a National ID Card per se...I do have to take issue with the WAY in which this was passed...

The very method used (almost subversive) is what should be throwing up red flags, if not the idea itself....

hope no offense taken , I jsut did not understand the statement....

I also do not agree with the way it was proposed with missing seats in the Senate, but shouldn't those who were not there have been there? We should get a list of those that werenot present and find out why? I cannot believe that they would not know something of this nature was to pass, and if they did not know, they werenot doing there job, just like they were not doing there job by not bieng there.

I am not a major supporter of the national ID card, but I feel there is more good than bad to be bought to the table. I mean, I think the gov't has the power to find out anything about anyone at anytime, if they wanted to. So wouldn't his just shorten the process?

I am not afraid of the men in black suits coming to my door until the days it does, let my rigths be taken or stand up, but only if I have done NOTHING wrong. Keep the porn of the pc's and don't post sikky # like I wsh Bush was dead, and maybe you won't get a visit.

No of course not. It's cool.

See, that's why I think this was held after everyone left so no one could speak thier mind on it.

I can't believe it either but I think that was why it was held after everyone left so hardly anyone could vote against it.

I agree. I mean I understand making an ID for those who don't have one but to give an ID out to everyone regardless if they already have some sort of identification is just pointless IMO.

So wouldn't his just shorten the process?

I think it would make things more complicated IMO. Think about it. You have a national ID, a drivers liscense, a work ID (which I have by the way). That's alot of ID's for me.

Firstly, Senate Bill 2845 hasn't been voted on yet, the Amendment "SA 3807 Terrorist Travel and Effective Screening" to the Bill has.

I read through the text of the Amendment and can't find where it's calling for the implementation of a National ID card. There is some hazy language, but I don't think anything will lead to an ID. It's purpose is to make it more difficult for foreign terrorists to enter and travel within the country.

Furthermore, IF there was National ID language in a bill that was passed in the Senate, The Liberty Comitee lead by Ron Paul would hopefully not let it pass in the House. They would at least cause quite a stir. On top of that, there is no mention of a National ID on their website, if this was in the works they'd have a call to action. This group killed National ID Bills before.

If you're opposed to an ID, and I am, definitely be wary. However, I don't think this Bill is something we need to worry about.

EDIT: Spelling :bnghd:

I agree that foreigners who come into this country should be given some kind of ID so that the government knows who they are and where they are.

Me too.

A simple passport suffices for 99.99% of US visitors, but what this amendment is calling for is actions to be taken to identify known or suspected terrorists and either track their movements within, or deny entry to, the US.

In response to those that don't think a National ID is a bad idea: Licenses are basically benign and life is almost impossible to live with out some kind of photo ID, nearly everyone has at least a state issued photo ID. That should be enough. The SSN, which was supposed to only be used by the Social Security Agency has morphed into something much larger then that. Now, a National ID to protect us from terrorists (who will just get fake ones any way), won't just be a card with your face and address on it. In my opinion it will eventually become a de-facto "internal passport", it will morph into much more then it was originally intended to. If you remember back to the Cold War or Nazi Germany and realize people were forced to "show their papers" you'll understand why some might not want a national ID.

I don't buy a lot of the conspiracies thrown around ATS but there's something more sinister behind a National ID.

The only thing sinister behind this would be who is going to get the contract. Can you imagine how expensive it would be to overhaul the entire US with a new ID system. New machines, computers, offices, software, hardware...billions of dollars.

Explain to me how a national ID card is leading to any of this. What is everyone so scared of? It is for our protection, keeping people without IDs from entering the US.

Read the article a little more carefully. It says it will modify STATE DRIVERS LICENSES. So why is everone whining? "I already have an ID and I don't want another one." What kind of childish statement is this?

Apparently any change to the laws that govern our country is an act of rape on our freedom.

This thing wouldn't be that bad if our government was truly doing it in our own best interest and there was a real terrorist threat out there. But since the only real terrorist threat in this country is the NWO as exemplified through the actions of the US government this is definately the beginning of a long road of civil liberty loss. Bush or Kerry the terrorists win.

I for one will ignore any requirement to have a national ID. The federal government is trying to eliminate a state's identity. Its the federal government that needs to lose its identity. Keep pusihing your luck guys. It will come back to bite you in the rear.

Actually, the federal ID card is probably already here!

I just got the renewal notice for my STATE driver's license. YOu MUST now submit your Social Security number to get the renewal. Why??

The Secretary of State is required by federal law (Chap. 313 or Title 9 of the US Code, 49 UCS 31301 to 31317) to obtain your SS number for matters related to child support enforcement. Your license application will be refused if you fail to provide your SS number or if you fail to certify in a Secretary of State branch office the you have not been issued a SS number.

I think that's pretty extreme if all they are doing is trying to find dead beat parents, don't you? With the SS #, they will have access to a LOT of information on you already.

Actually when I was in VA, my social security was my license number. funny other states do not use the SS#. But in GA for the first time in my life I got fingerprinted, and I felt that my privacy was taken away.

First of all I believe it is a good idea. Its intent is not to hinder any of your travel plans and I would be pissed off it did. But the purpose is infact to hinder non citizens such as illegal aliens from enjoying the benefits as we do. It is for that purpose and it will not limit your freedom what so ever. Will the card get up on two legs and tell you what to do and what not to do?

They just recently stopped doing it in VA. A few mos ago I renewed my license and asked that it not be my drivers license number, the clerk told me they quit putting it on after many requests and identity fraud problems.

Quote: "our babies tag and implanted with microchips, the land of the free indeed."

Well "Smart Card" Technology has been out for a while now. In addition all ID Photo Cards (Doesn't matter what Kind - Drivers License, University, Corporate, Government) will have 3D Holographic Watermarks on them.

Have you seen the New Fed Reserve 20, 50 & 100 Designs - Multi-Color & so on!!!

There is only so far that you can go with Chips & Encryption Techniques & Unique Identifying Numbers - They are already getting into Electronic Finger Print & Retinal Scanning!!!

It is the next level of Biometric Technology that really SCARES me however -Blood Samples. Talk about the ULTIMATE Unique Identifier -> Your DNA!!!
