If the poms care so much about the people of Falklands they should give control of the island to the people that live there.

These imperialists dont want to lose their military foothole in that part of the world. They also dont want to lose all that cash they will make from the oil in the region.

I hope Argentina does invade. What right do the British have?

The people that live there WANT to be British Citizens! Or have you not heard that most important fact?

It's got nothing to do with imperialism. So tell me. In a world where the people who live there want to and ARE British Citizens... What right does Argentina have to the Island? That it might have been theirs many many years ago?

Well America belonged to the Indians. Australia belonged to the Aborigines. The Roman Empire once ruled a lot of the world. So did the Mongols from Mongolia.

THE CITIZENS OF THE FALKLAND ISLANDS ARE BRITISH CITIZENS AND WISH TO REMAIN BRITISH CITIZENS AND DO NOT WANT ARGENTINA.

are you sure. how many falkland islanders do you know. i doubt they like being pawns in a colonial and capitalist struggle to control oil resources in the region.

the only ones in harms way when the missiles and bullets start flying are them.

argentina is claiming as to why the british have the right to all the oil in the region a few hundred miles of their coast just because they lay a disputed claim on a rock that is part of the argentinian continental shelf.

So let me get this strait

You want to break international law?, that being, "THE RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION" which the people of the Falklands have stated time & time again for over 30yrs that they wish to remain British as they always have been for 200+ years

Please remember those people there inhabiting the islands are the only inhabitants since the remote islands was spotted, nobody was massacred & killed, they was uninhabited island, the same cannot be said for Argentina can it?

So just because you hate the British they should just give them back to the nearest imperialist nation because they have a larger land mass and its on the same continental shelf ... what? so is Chile, Brazil & other,

LOL

Do you even understand what you are saying?

The Falklands was colonised before Argentina even existed which was a Spanish colony after the massacre of the native South Americans, just because Argentina is 300 miles away and is a bigger land mass, the British don't have to return S@i# to anyone one, there was no native inhabitants to hand them back to like there was in Argentina, how about thw british hand them over to the native south american indians when argentina return there stolen land back to the natives?

Argentina have no legal claim

Argentina are the ones who want to kick people out of there homes that there ancestors built and invade, they have every right to determine there own future, and if they're again threatened or invaded the British Navy, Army & Airforce will make easy work of hem again

I think even if it happens. Argentina will not capture the island.
You want to know why?
Britain seems to be in a moment of cutting yet like during the thatcher years they are capable to fight back.
One seeks power from the weaker yet the weaker seeks the power from the enemy.
Another thing that I think would be risky for Argentina if they did so.Brazil would most probably go against them since recently there has been a lot of trade and intrest there. With the royal family visiting and what not.

Nice rant there. You do realize that the BRICS will be the BRICS Empire, don't you? Case in point is the Falklands, damn the self determination of the inhabitants. that's not really important. Look at how China intentionally devalues the yuan, you think that is benevolent?. You'll just exchange one master for the other. I doubt given the human rights credentials of most BRICS members, that they will be any better at being the boss.

Actually it would be better if the UK got out of the Western Hemisphere all together. No nation of Europe has a right to own a single square inch of future Union soil(I believe it is the manifest destiny for every Western Hemisphere nation to join the Union). As such, British occupation amounts to an act of hostility against the USA.

And FYI, before any english settlement was established THERE ALREADY WAS AN ARGENTINIAN SETTLEMENT which was expelled BY VIOLENT MEANS.
They took it, as any other imperialist nation, because they could.

The truth is, Argentina has a much worse claim over the Falklands than England does over Northern France.

The Falklands have just used in the past as a device to unify the people of Argentina. Today the issue is being used by a very cynical Argentine President to distract attention away from her failed economic poilcies.

Argentina has borrowed huge sums from the rest of the world and now refuses to repay.

Anything that defects domestic and international attention from that is welcomed by Cristina Fernández.

Argentina’s default, after a severe economic crisis, sparked social unrest and runs on banks.

Unlike companies, countries cannot officially go bust so their creditors don’t have the benefit of a clear insolvency framework. National sovereign-immunity laws protect many state-owned assets abroad, such as embassies.

In America, however, stuff that is used for commercial purposes is fair game.

The Economist

Argentina is in the position that private Argentine companies in the USA are in danger of getting seized to repay Argentine government debt.

This topic keeps on coming up.........

Facts are that even if Argentina were inclined there would be little to gain and a lot to lose if they invaded again. I don't really care or either way if we retain The Falklans or not. The people on the Islands are obviously British so it's no surprise they wish to remain as such.

Argentina have form for using The Falklans as a method of distracting from bad news on the home front. Make no mistake though, If the Argentineans pushed it, I'm sure Brtiain would defend the islands to the last.

I would question why we retain these former colonial outposts such as Gibraltar and The Falklands?. The only conclusion one can draw is that its for strategic importance militarily.

Hey no worries dude. Sorry I was so obnoxious.

And sorry OP for clogging your thread with off topic stuff.

I dont think youre obnoxious. Maybe controversial, Yes, but we need that at ATS....and you have some good valid points that came across.

Its like Freeborn said,

Yes, he can be deliberately provocative which I don't like, but he can also provide interesting and challenging posts which is everything this site is supposed to be about. He is only a new member and he has potential to develop into a very valued, though controversial, member who has a lot to offer and give.
We need people to question the accepted otherwise we just go around in circles discussing same old same old, deal me out of that.

I to believe you have a lot to offer ATS

Quite the jester aren't you.

Another who seems intent on deliberately antagonising and provoking people.

BRICS: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa

India and China have always been at odds since Chinese forces tried to invade northern India a couple decades ago.

Brazil has been seeking assistance from the French and the British in getting onto the Security Council.

South Africa is currently trying to hold onto being the African continental power, and barely containing racial tensions within its cities.

So if there's a war between the BRICS and the "Imperial Empires" it's going to stack up as "Imperial Empires" with India and Brazil against Russian and China et al.

Good luck with your fantasy

Union is a codeword for Empire??? There is always a major power behind any alliance/union/federation ect. Manifest Destiny? You sure use some odd words to argue against colonization by outside groups.........look it up.

Somehow I don't think you are a real proponent of the Monroe Doctrine, except when it suits you.
