Since the national attention is on birth control, here's my idea: If we want to fight poverty, reduce violent crime and bring down our embarrassing drop-out rate, we should swap contraceptives for fluoride in Michigan's drinking water.

Ok, first I agree that there is a problem with welfare and abuse of the system. I see it first hand with people living off the system with no ambition to get out on their own. This guy's solution (I know its only his opinion) disgusts me. Let the poor people die out slowly. That'll take care of them. People like this guy is what's driving the Republican Party to the extreme right. They advocate for small government, but want to dictate how people should live. Make their decisions for them.

With the amount of chemicals and radiations we are exposed to our species will be infertile in a few generations.

I propose a mutual agreement: If Mr. Eugenicist wants poor people to have birth control in their water, then he and his rich buddies have to give up Viagra and Cialis.

I read a stat somewhere that as we're ingesting GMOs, a few generations down our offspring will be infertile. However, a few generations from now I also feel we'll have advanced enough technologically to counter this; via gene therapy, etc.

As soon as we eliminate these cyst on humanities back --- Monsanto, the private banking elite & such --- we can focus on recuperating.

Possibly, still doesnt make it ok to let this stuff happen. The people should be sickened and ashamed in themselves for letting corporate monsters like monsanto take such control over the world and playing games with our entire speices future at stake.
It will take a proper revolution to eliminate them, and most people couldnt care less at the moment.

Do you really think those who have worked so hard to put these plans of action into motion would give up without a fight? I don't. Actually, I'd totally expect them to have some form of fail-safe that they could release in the event of such a move on behalf of the general public. Something bad, like the GMO from hell.

Besides, even if we removed Monsanto and the bankers, and those other people, the same general people would still be in power. I seriously doubt they'd loan out any technology to fix the reproductive issues. I can imagine there'd be a few strings attached, say three generations of indentured servants for fertility. The only other reason the ruling elite would have to help repair reproductive function would be during worker shortages.

Eugenics anyone? Yeah, there you go, just come out and say it!

A percent of abuse does not mean EVERYONE. So, in turn EVERYONE has to suffer?

This of course does not take away from the narrative, but seriously.....and people want to know why no one takes this site with anything but a grain of salt.

My apologies. Nolan Finley is the Editorial Page EDITOR. This guy has been spewing crap for the rag for years. Thanks for adding to the narrative. You claim to not want to take away from the narrative, but that's about all you tried to do. Yes, the title was misleading and I'm not savvy enough on this site to change it. Anyone who bothered to click the source link would've have seen it was an editorial.

The worst part about the EDITORIAL is the comments left by people on the page. Just blatant class warfare and hidden racism.

Good article. Basically the guy is just highlighting the problem of having more kids when you are already on welfare and the cost burden to the taxpayers.
His example is extreme(12 kids one woman), but makes the point. Many women have multiple kids just to keep abusing the system and creating a larger problem. Most of these children will stay in the system when they grow and it solves nothing.

Now as far as this news editor guy goes... It sounds to me like we have a daddy that just found out his 15 year old daughter is knocked up, isn't happy about it, and is venting his frustrations on paper to the world.

I agree, there is a problem. Its his idea of a solution that scares the hell out of me. Instead of education and jobs for these people he would rather eliminate them entirely. He is an extreme right wing columnist. In the past he has written about how great job exportation to slave wage countries is.

Politically, I'm middle of the road. I want a smaller government, but a modest social safety net and money spent for education, not the war machine. I just don't get the conservatives who want small government and yet want to micromanage everybody's lives. That being said, there does need to be some strings attached to welfare. Tracking how the money is being spent. Making sure it benefits the children instead the parents. The ones who keep pumping out kids, they should have a work program so they're not pumping out kids for bigger checks. Have. A pain in the rear CPS worker check on them weekly. That annoyance alone should make most want to get off welfare.

Drugging the water supply, even the idea of it is just wrong. Like someone mentioned above, we are being bombarded with toxic crap everyday. Adding more to take care of the "poor" problem just seems evil to me.
