Another shooting... at Virginia Tech...wow. Its sad that we're having so many shootings lately. Times are hard, I wonder what this one is attributed to?

Such a short time between two shootings. I hope no one is hurt with this one. Just recently a bank local to me got robbed, then we have that suicidal mother in Texas, and the prior shooting at V Tech...and all the other crap going on.

People doing this just justifies the big men in suits wanting to remove our gun rights. I hope this doesn't help fuel that. (To clarify, I mean it does NOT justify, but it justifies it in the eyes of the people who believe we need remove firearms.)

No, it doesn't.

And we can't let them TELL us that it does.

I'm actually surprised there wasn't one at Penn State.

Lets take bets...

Will the MSM say the shooter was an Iranian sympathizer?

I really hope this is just a very very small incident
because that school went through enuff

Also whenever there are shootings at schools, it spreads and happens elsewhere too
It's like some weird virus

Then we are in total agreement. I see that you have added a clarification to your original statement.

"They" have "justified" taking away our rights for FAR too long.

All of which are unrelated other than being in the headlines.

Other ATS thread

Both are OK to be open, but the other thread is reporting this was a traffic stop by a Univ Police Officer gone wrong.

Hopefully that is true, and this isn't a massacre scenario, just a fleeing suspect.

Either that or, a radical terrorist from the cynical group known as Occupy X, lead by the fiendish Cobra Commander. We need a specialist task force to unify AMERICA and defend THE FREE WORLD.

They just got reports that a police officer was shot and there might be a second victim...

I love how I found this on ATS before ANY other news organization. NBC got to it pretty quickly, but wow, we are extraordinary.

Hearing this news, then recalling someone posting a thread yesterday titled "Do we really need the police?" made me quite angry. Who else is gonna stop these crazy people?! This guy gave his life trying to protect these students.

RIP to the cop who died and hopefully the other person is gonna be ok.

People lose their cool because TPTB create it to work out that way.
They are using these tatics to get people to break down. So that they can have more availability to own everything and run around naked and have sex with whatever.
They are saying "Remove the weak ones from the heard..." so, it would be best to help the weak become strong and then you find the strong to be weak.
People need help sometimes, this society is too selfish.

We don't know that yet? We know a cop was shot, but we don't know why, or that he was in the line of duty, or that he protected anybody but himself.

It could be the exact opposite, it could be a student protecting himself. I know a lot of University cops, and they aren't the cream of the crop! It doesn't pay well, it rarely requires much police work, and therefore they don't recruit very highly.

Let's wait for the final outcome before we martyr or demonize anybody.

The school's website reports that a police officer has been shot and the Collegiate Times, the student newspaper that covers Virginia Tech, is reporting that the police officer is dead.

I have a buddy who works local news. I got it before it went live, Google brought the ABC news article up first. I was actually 10 minutes late in posting due to work related distractions.

I highly doubt the officer was shot by a crazy student with a gun on campus via self-defense.

But I guess we'll see.

More than likely the gunman would have been stopped right there. When you have Gun Free Zones, then only criminals will have guns there, leaving the innocent people with no way to protect themselves. There is one University that has made carrying concealed legal on their Campus and that is Liberty University.

I hope this VT shooting is contained and nobody else gets hurt.

I am never without my gun. I carry it on campus, I carry it at work, I always carry it. It doesn't have to be a crazy student. It might be a crazy student, but it doesn't have to be.

I had to threaten to call the chief here on our campus one day before the idiot cops let me drive away. I backed into an old rusty sign pole in an abandoned parking lot on the edge of campus. Messed up my tailgate, but didn't even knock the rust off the pole. I took a look at it, cussed a little, and drove away. Two overzealous napoleon types pulled me over and tried to detain me for leaving the scene of an accident. I knew the law better than them, and I hadn't done more than $500 worth of damage, there was no need to call authorities, etc., etc. The conversation got heated, one of them wanted to cuff me and put me in their car, so I grabbed my phone and the chief's business card from my wallet and started to call him up. This caused them to pause and think for a moment, and by then a more senior officer was also arriving, and we talked, and they let me go. Idiots. I had my gun on me the whole time, they never knew it, and I didn't plan to use it, I would have gone peacefully and handled things through the legal system, but there are occasions where a citizen might need to use self-defense against an officer.

Either way, I am sad for this officer, and the situation is terrible. I'm only trying to urge caution in assuming the who's and why's without any information.
