Much appreciated my friend. A little less than ten playing in the sand to be technical. Was actively deployed about 95% of the time between '03 and a few months ago though. Thanks for yours as well. I'm a Soldier through and through, but have nothing but love for big Mean Green the killing machine. Semper Fi, sir.

He didn't bring a bomb on the plane, he brought a part of a bomb on the plane. Had a detinator been with it it I would say he was a terrorist. He was just stupid just like the number of people that try to bring back things from war.

Soldiers shouldn't be exposed to TSA anyway.

Why should soldiers get any special treatment? If its anyone who should get special treatment it is the taxpayers.

Soldiers pay taxes out of their measley paychecks too.

2nd to say TDawg and OldCorp are bada@@ for cooking with bombs.........er I mean... fuel.

Without a detonator, it IS nothing more than "fuel."

This photo shows how C4 was used to heat water for making coffee, tea and hot chocolate in Vietnam. A small stove was made by punching holes in the sides of a small C-rations can that had been opened at one end. A small amount of C4 was put in the stove and made to burn by touching a lit cigarette to it. This method of heating water was much quicker than using the heat tabs that came with the C-rations.

C4 is a plastic explosive with putty-like qualities that needs a blasting cap to detonate it. But when made to burn it would do so with tremendous heat. Just a small marble-sized ball was all that was needed to bring a cup of water rapidly to the boiling point. If too much C4 was used, it would burn so hot that it would melt the bottom out of a can of water. This photo was taken by Bruce Williams in his bunker on Hill 37 near Dai Loc. - SOURCE

This practice is common, and has been since at least the Vietnam war. I was an 81mm mortar gunner in the Corp, so high explosives were a part of my everyday life. I can't tell you how many hundreds of times we started cooking fires, or just heated 8oz of water, with those little booklets of C4.

I think there were 8 tied to the bottom of each round; their purpose was to adjust the distance your round traveled without having to use the elevator and change the attitude of the weapon platform. Each booklet was about an inch square and maybe an 1/8th of an inch deep, with little tiny rubbery "pages" of C4. Two of them would heat your morning coffee in less than 30 seconds.

A half ounce of C4 like the soldier had in his possession would have been about the size of a marble "shooter," or a about an inch across. We used to take things like this home all of the time for no other reason than to show our friends cool stuff that civilians never knew existed or didn't have access too. I think that is all that was on this young man's mind as well, and it's nice to see that investigators agree. He's going to be in enough trouble as it is without some bogus terrorism charge added.

The man's got his facts straight. EOD boys used to brew/heat instant coffee and spaghetti-O's with the stuff all the time, good to know the tradition has been in-practice for decades.

Those stating that if the man was a "shade of brown" this would be viewed entirely differently, I say sure. The MSM and maybe even the alphabet agencies would probably spend more time investigating and/or making accusations if that was the fact. This kind of reinforces what many of us have said. Military men and women have been smuggling ordinance back home since the inception of the military. 99.9% of the time it is to have some fun back home and show their friends and family something they would otherwise not see, as OldCorp has stated.

This man's MOS, age, demeanor and service experience all point to that very same circumstance. Had it been a random individual with ties to a country, region or culture that hates the United States of America, then yes, I would not be so quick to write this off. It would not change the fact that there was no source of detonation present or accessible however. You could write that off as a terrorist being dumb I suppose, but given this Soldier's training and capabilities, we know this is not the case.

Would someone please wake me, when new tricks are played....b-cuz these tactics are growing OLD! I'm just curious to know....if this soldiers name was Mamir Habu Shabib...how would he be treated? If Mr. Shabib was caught...and gave the sorry excuse, "I didnt know", would Mr. Shabib get the same treatment, as this U.S. soldier? Or, is this U.S. soldier given a free pass because he is a U.S. soldier? Shouldn't what's good for the goose, be good for the gander???

If this world is EVER gonna change, it's gonna have to start with our judgements. To me, it seems our scales of justice are a little lop-sided. No?

I still believe, if ANYTHING in our 'world' is to change, for the better, we're gonna have to go back and revisit 9-11. I think there's some unfinished business...."the people" need to take care of. Our lack of action, regarding that EVENT, may be the portal, to the evil about to be unleashed on us.

I think you guys are missing the point. It seems they caught a man with explosvies which is what their job is so good work on their part.

I've been arguing for a long time that the airport security (tsa) is getting a far worse reputation than they deserve so it's good to see them staying vigilant considering I use this airport quite frequently.

I agree. And the WAY he was caught is just fine with me. Go ahead and use explosive sniffing dogs on luggage, I have no problem with that. They're far cheaper than mechanical apparatus, and I'd wager more accurate as well. I also wouldn't have a problem walking through a portal which "sniffed" my person, and they do exist and are in use, before I'd do the naked scanner deal and have my DNA unzipped.

i don't know why they got upset. Military like to bring back souvenirs and prizes of war. People are too paranoid about planes and terrorist. I remember a friend brought back an Iraqi sniper rifle and I think a 9mm M-10 or something similar along with lots of photos from GW1. The guys had fun in backyard killing tree stumps and empty cans. I imagine a few blocks of C-4 would be fun.

I imagine it would.

I mean if you can't trust a redneck veteran with a block of C4, who can you trust?

*Just reminded me of a joke: What were the redneck's last words? "Hey ya'll, watch thi..."

You are so naive to assume automatically that there could be no accomplice. Just like the 9/11 hijackers, no accomplices, just one person who took over the entire plane right?

I for one don't credit NightGypsy of being naive. I credit you with being paranoid and over-analytic.

Ricola, meet "The_Professional." I just looked and saw how many posts you have and it looks like you are unfamiliar with our friend Mr. Meat Puppet. Let me assure you Ricola, if the soldier in question had been a Muslim, Mr Meat would have taken the opposite stance, and it would have been HIM telling everyone how C4 can't detonate without a blasting cap.

My good friend, with that oh-so-sexy 70's porn 'stache, takes the most controversial anti-American/pro-Islam stances you can imagine. Whether he really believes some of the things he says or is just a troll trying to rile people up is unclear; but he is entertaining to say the least.

Just a heads up.

I tried. For the sake of everyone my participation in this thread is over. Good luck professional, take care.

I'm with you brother. Someone said everyone was dumber for having read some of his posts, and I have to add my own anecdotal evidence: It's true. My IQ needs to rebound, so I'm outta here for now. I might check back later for S&G.

Ciao!

Christopher Eric Wey

Here are my theories:

(1) He probably wanted to sell it on the black market when he got home to his neighborhood.

(2) He probably just wanted to cut it up into small amounts and play with it.

(3) He's mentally unstable, and actually wanted to use it on someone in his home town.

(4) Someone planted it in his suitcase for some reason.

(5) He's prolly trying to get into the mafia or some other criminal organization, OR he's already in one.

Are you implying that I am prejudiced? If so, I don't know on what grounds you base that on.
If the evidence states that he was not carrying a detonator for the C4, my reasoning would tell me that its more likely that he was transporting C4 for a different reason than to use it to blow up that plane, even if his name was Osama Bin Laden for all I care.

This kid probably just made a bad judgement call and snuck it off the range to take home. That bad judgement will cost him many years of his life behind bars.

I'm not a bomb expert though so I wonder if detonators are able to be detected?

Here is a paranoid theory.

He tries to smuggle a small amount on board, just enough to cripple the aircraft mid air. Another person smuggles a detonator on board the same aircraft. They meet up on the plane and put the two harmless components together and make a small bomb.

I don't believe that theory of course, but it is an alternative theory.

Sounds like something TSA can use to their advantage.....A simple setup to make people believe they are actually doing something good here and that terrorists will be caught by them even if they are Americans!!!

Now they can fondle your children all they want because they caught a terrorist....COME ON

If that was the case then the article wouldn't have said that they believe the soldier didn't have any bad intentions.

They would have said that he was a terroist, not that he wasn't one.

Soldier Detained Attempting To Bring 'Souvenir' Military Explosives Through Arizona Airport
Source:www.huffingtonpost.com...

According to an FBI agent's affidavit filed in support of the charges, Wey admitted picking up a small piece of C4 explosive that had fallen to the ground while attending a training course on explosives detection at the Army's Yuma Proving Ground. FBI agent Anthony Mace wrote that Wey, who was terminated from the course on Tuesday, said he planned to take the C4 explosive home and show his family, then dispose of it.....A TSA agent at Yuma International Airport was screening checked baggage Wednesday morning when he used a swab on a large, military-style backpack with Wey's name on it. It tested positive for explosives, and during a search a small amount of C4 was found inside a snuff tobacco can.

Source: newsfeedresearcher.com...

TSA officials found a can of chewing tobacco with a ball of C4 explosives inside.

Wey was interviewd by FBI agents and charged with attempt to carry an explosive on an aircraft and transportation of a stolen explosive

A federal magistrate in Yuma released him without bail Thursday

He's due in court again August 2.

He was ultimately terminated from the program for not meeting the course requirements

So with this we can tell...
1. The bag was not a carry on(large military backpack)
2. The FBI, trained to distinguish lies, determined he was telling the truth.(He would not have been released without bail)

Of course it is terrorist related. He brought a bomb onto the airplane. If he says otherwise, it is a obvious lie. They need to investigate this more and see how he was planning on performing his terrorist actions.

WTF???!!!!
I think you need to re-read the article Professional before you start with all the 'He's a terrorist!' fear-mongering bs.
For those who haven't read the article it states clearly that :-

The complaint says that Wey stole the C4 while attending an explosive training course. Authorities found no evidence that he intended any harm with the small amount of explosives in his possession.

Thats right folks the authorities found NO EVIDENCE that he intended any harm.
Proffesional I think you need to change your name.

And also, Star for pics of C-4 being used as fuel for conventional means.
