Increased solar radiation to “extremely high” in Mexico City In its report of 15: 00 hours, the atmospheric monitoring system explained that the level of ultraviolet ayos reached 11 units in two areas of the Valley of Mexico, so called on the population to take precautions. Mexico.- in two areas of the Valley of Mexico “extremely high” solar radiation is recorded, by which the system of monitoring atmospheric in the city of Mexico urged the population to take precautions to avoid damage to health. The body of the Secretariat of the environment of the Federal District detailed in his report of 15: 00 hours that the level of ultraviolet (UV) rays reached 11 units. Therefore reiterated its recommendation to the population to use cream with Blocker Sun factor protection 30 or higher, wear long sleeves and light coloured, use caps or hat, garments and lenses with UV filter. Also, urged to avoid directly exposed to the rays of the Sun and if it is possible to carry out any activity under the shade. As to the quality of air, system explained that the most polluted areas are the Southwest with 109 points in the index Metropolitan of the quality of the air (Imeca) for ozone, and the Centre with 101 units for the same pollutant. The rest of the areas in the Valley of Mexico maintain regular conditions, with 99 points of ozone in the Southeast, 89 in the Northwest with and 80 in the Northeast. The levels of other contaminants, such as oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, as well as carbon monoxide and suspended particles remain below standard in all areas, he concluded. Source: Milenio.com Very high” in the Valley of Mexico radiation In an hour, ultraviolet radiation (UV) index rose seven to nine-level, which is located in “very high”, reported the system of monitoring atmospheric in the city of Mexico (Simat). In his report of 13: 00 hours, the Agency of the Secretariat of the environment of the Federal District recommended to avoid directly exposed to the Sun and in case if necessary, make the activities under the shade. He pointed out that it is essential to apply creams with solar protection factor 30 preference or greater, use shirts or blouses of long-sleeved, put caps or hat, and glasses with UV filter. The Simat stressed that special attention should be on children, because they are vulnerable to damage from radiation. The quality of the air, the Metropolitan air quality index (Imeca) is below 100 points. Source: cronica.com By the solazo blocker and caps they distributed to students Three days that begin the Easter holidays, but five consecutive that the capital have been exposed to 11 and 12 degrees of solar radiation – considered by specialists as “extremely high” – yesterday the Secretaries of health and education of the city began a campaign of prevention, mainly in children. To do this, the owners of both units, Armando Ahued and Mario Delgado, respectively, announced that four pharmaceutical companies donated 100,000 “sunscreen” and an equal number of caps, which will be delivered to children in primary schools. In addition, despite these risks, the Secretary of health capital ratified that on Friday “start” the beaches “chilangas”, where also given sunscreen, the same as in the main roads that connect the city with the interior of the country. Both officials gave the “signal” output to 100 brigades, whose young people are dealt a total of 100 thousand caps and equal number of sunscreens among students of public schools primaras. For its part, Delgado Carrillo noted that the campaign is to avoid blows from heat and dehydration in children, so sent to the SEP a document with several recommendations to deal with this season of heat. “Such recommendations were ahead, between 8: 00 and 10: 00 am, the classes of physical education in the primary;” require teachers to ask the parents of children that these use sunblock; and do not expose children to the rays of the Sun and moisturize them. “But so far I have had no response,” lamented the Secretary of education of Mexico City.

Now, let's take a look at the following forecast showing UltraViolet(UV) Radiation output levels:

Mexico UV Readings

(Bottom of page shows description of UV Levels)

Could THIS be the reason for all those underground bunkers everywhere?

What is to happen when the ozone layer just dissolves pretty much....than what would happen? Does anyone know "hypothetically speaking" what exactly would happen if earth's ozone layer dissolves??

Thanks for this thread. It's going to be one heck of a summer, I think. For people living in the US here's a useful site for UV warningsespecially if you live in the Southwest.
www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov...
I can't stand sunscreen but I stay out of the sun and wear hats when it gets bad.

Weird. Here in Canada all I keep hearing people say is that it is going to be a colder summer up here this year. lots of humidity like we usually get but lower temperatures. Today I had to wake up and clear snow off the car before work.... southwest ontario and its snowing on April 18th. I think we are in for some crazy weather this summer, whether its hot or cool, we are in for quite the high storm and high UV levels. Stay safe ats'ers make sure u are checking daily forecasts and radar maps. expect the unexpected.

That is the thing, northern hemisphere is going to be getting much colder while southern hemisphere is going to be getting much hotter....

These UltraViolet rays in mexico are happening because of the ozone layer thinning or even like a hole where the sun rays get more unfiltered upon exposure to sun rays.

This is not good, I heard somewhere about a temperature drop in mexico from 80F to 40F or the other way around, in 20 MINUTES. So a 40 Degree Farenheit difference in 20 minutes??

On the bright side that Extreme UV exposure only lasts 2-3 hours out of each day instead of most of the day but still needs a close eye THIS SUMMER as this may affect alot of people before it becomes apparent.....

Sunscreen/Water/Sunglasses and something to cover most of skin, like a silky or soft material that makes it comftorable in such sunny conditions

yes, Living over here in mexico, i can tell you temp falls 20¨´ degrees in minutes. Extreme hot in the middleday-afternoon and cold raining later. We had a weird "granizada" (ice chunks) and electrical storms the past 2 days. People are worried cause these are pretty inusual weather changes similar to days before the stronger EQ from the 1985 year when Mex City center was devasted.

Though it is probably also the sun activity, I find this a convenient cover for radiation from Fukushima.

I saw this yesterday and did a little digging. Turns out that the same levels are predicted for many US states this week as well so it's not really that extraordinary. Check the UV forecast for the southern portions of the US and you will see that they are forecast at 10-11 as well.

That worries me, especially when summer rolls around.....than how are the readings going to be in Mexico and other states across the US...

Thought it would be interesting idea to make a huge umbrella type structure where many people could go for shade in the worst case scenario that the sun gets too intense

was in Cabo very recently......

I'm a lily-white ginger.

Stayed in the shade reading and drinking an un-human amount of booze at the very nice all-inclusive resort I was staying at.
Been to mexico plenty of times...never burned this bad.
Took my hat off, in the shade...and my very bald head burned to a crisp in 2 hrs...in the shade!!!.

just seemed a little worse than normal...I go to Mexico every year.

Still peeling...2 weeks later...

Yep and why the caves are being closed down to public access. The surface is going to be a very deadly place to be, humanity is doomed and we are now in the death and dying process.
