Folks are scrambling to get it. Now with the second reactor going up this thing is getting more serious by the hour. If I were in Tokyo I'd be getting the hell outta dodge. Anybody have any alternatives? I heard one poster mention Betadine.

Supplies of potassium iodide, a preventive against radiation poisoning of the thyroid gland, are running low at some manufacturers, as Americans seek protection amid fears that radiation from Japan could head to the U.S., according to the companies. One leading supplier, Anbex Inc., quickly sold out of its supply of more than 10,000 14-tablet packages on Saturday, said Alan Morris, president of the Williamsburg, Va., company. He said the closely held firm was getting about three orders a minute for $10 packages of its Iosat pills, up from as few as three a week normally. "Those who don't get it are crying. They're terrified," said Mr. Morris. The company tells callers that the likelihood of dangerous levels of radiation reaching the U.S. is low, but some callers, particularly on the West Coast, remain afraid, Mr. Morris said.

Okay I can't believe this!!!! Saturday night I bought a bottle of the radiation tablets from ebay for about $22.00.

I already had one bottle, but I went ahead and got another one for my family. I just checked again to see if they had any left, and people are now selling 12 tablets for $539.00!!!!!!! The other ones that are bids are running up over $100.00. It makes me sad to see people spend this kind of money. I know people are going to make money if they can BUT??????

I am speechless...

Well unfortunately you didn't state where you live which made it difficult for me to find something close to you.

I figured the internet (Being worldwide) would have to come close. Im sure many of the chemists around your location would have a catalouge on the internet. All you gotta do is search for it. That was my point. Google is your friend.

In the U.S., the Health Department of your local city should be carrying them, but chances are they wont give them out in time, if they even have them. Plastic up your windows and doors and dont go outside. Search: what to do in the event of a nuclear distaster.

I'm not surprised it happened, but sad that it did.

For anyone looking for iodine, you can also go and buy iodine tincture or betadine scrub wash at the drug store and swab 8mL on your skin and this will give the same protection. It's much cheaper.

Amazon vendors are bumping up the prices, standard dose seems to be 32.5mg at about $5 for 60 tabs. You can buy 50mg for $68. I saw a few bottles with single digit mg doses. There are some herbal versions of potassium iodide which seem odd. Many are either out of stock, or ships in 3-5 weeks.
