France is our biggest ally, declares Obama: President's blow to Special Relationship with Britain

www.dailymail.co .uk

Barack Obama has declared that France is America’s greatest ally, undermining Britain’s Special Relationship with the U.S The President risked offending British troops in Afghanistan by saying that French president Nicolas Sarkozy is a ‘stronger friend’ than David Cameron. The remarks, during a White House appearance with Mr Sarkozy, will reinforce the widely-held view in British diplomatic circles that Mr Obama has less interest in the Specia

I wasn't going to post this as there are more important things happening in the world like the Australian floods.

However I thought it deserved a thread.

I know it is from the DM so cannot attest to its veracity, but c'mon!

The French HATE America!

I think this is proof that obama is a rabid socialist who hates Britain.

I think he is very out of touch with the reality of British and American ties and the countries people he supposed to represent.

Maybe he fancies Sarkozy' wife? And loves how the *french* have just sold ships and other military hardware to his socialist Russian comrades?

Who knows?

Lets see how quickly the french come to their "biggest allies" aid when the shtf.

They will be too busy running the other way!

That was a bit harsh mate.

The Yanks have their faults as do we, but our leaders would never smack our greatest allies in the face like he just did.

I do not think he represents grassroots Americans very well with those comments.. And has took a piss over out dead soldiers, mothers, fathers, widows and kids who fought side by side with America at their behest.

This kinda reminds me of 1984 (though in a less dramatic way) of when Oceania would declare Eurasia its enemy and Eastasia is best friend, then Oceania's ministry of truth (Minitrue) would have orders to spread the word that Eastasia is the enemy and Eurasia is Oceania's top ally.

I feel sorry for the french, does this mean they will have to go with the us now and become victims of friendly fire all the time?

Withdraw all British troops from conflicts instigated by the US, demand the immediate withdrawal from Britain of all US military personnel/equipment, increase visa regulations for US citizens and start deporting non-essential Americans living in our country. The yanks and the frogs are scum in equal measure.

Slight overreaction!

I know it was harsh, but my actual feelings for Americans and the French would not be allowed on this website.

I wonder what he is after? Anyway, it's ok to have a best friend amount other friends!

It is a strange one though, is it possibly because Cameron won't bend over as far as Blair and his boys did?
Only time will tell.

Peace

Jesus Christ. A little extreme? The US political establishment might be creating a kleptocratic state, but let's not stereotype all Americans.

Bloody hell..

I am American and feel the same way you brits do about what Obama said. Just understand that isn't the American view point of the people just some guy who will most likely not be in office come election time. Ps you might want to watch when the media gets a hold of this story and how fast Obama back tracts on his statement. This should be a statement to how the American public truly feels about the British before you bash us just wait

I'm wondering which sides pushing this.

If its the uk trying to distance themselves from america thans caused obama to say this, then maybe our politicians are starting to find a spine (doubtful I know). either that or their worried about being associated with america in the future.

If its the us pushing the wedge inbetween us then their doing themselves no favours, The U.K. has been a good little "ally" for a long time.

Let's be fair, you can't group a whole nation together and say like or dislike. I have met many great people from all across the globe and guess what I have met absolute tossers too!

It's about being educated and able to compromise with your views and opinions.

Peace

I've had a split citizenship for decades. Britain and America.

I'm about ready to toss the American one, with this sort of garbage.

Your talking about poeple in general, You have not met Every american therefore you cannot judge.
Besides you have right to Judge others.
Id rather go live in france than live in the same house as someone who so Openly judges poeple as a nation with no room for the understanding in the goodness of the hearts of the minority of great poeple living in these countries

Bad form.
