What they have done is gotten control, or access in one way or another with contracts, to a large share of the worlds resources.
But there are still many untapped resources out there.
In Australia for example, there is so much that has yet to be mined, it's unbelievable. It will blow your mind just how much more Australia has.
In Greece as another example, it's estimated there is tens of billions(a conservative figure) of natural resources ranging from something like two dozen various rare earth minerals to uranium to natural gas and oil. Political reasons over there are the reason why 99% of it isn't exploited.

Alternatively, what the west could and SHOULD do, is move from fossil fuels to renewables. Invest heavily in it. So we can power our cities and vehicles with renewables. China is the biggest investor in renewable energy, believe it or not. That way some of the pressure is relieved, and it will also weaken the West's enemies. And if you think places like Saudi Arabia are our friends, think again. They are the ones funding terror groups, not because it's part of some grand conspiracy theory for our governments to take away our freedoms, but because it's their ideology. They will try and convert us to Islam with force, or kill us. And that's what's happening slowly.
How can they afford it? Through petro-dollars. Their entire economies are based on us, THE WEST, buying oil.
They slow down production, and drive up prices. Holding us hostage.

Another good thing the west could and should do, is to bring back manufacturing jobs from places like China, Indonesia, Turkey and India, back to the west. That is something that should never have been allowed to happen. But corporate greed and corruption and their tentacles reaching into our governments allowed it all in the name of profits. They probably came up with some loopholes where they wouldn't have to pay extra taxes for the extra profits they were making.

You want to cripple China? Bring back the manufacturing jobs.
But then again the Chinese regime wouldn't have a problem genociding hundreds of thousands of it's own people to save a few bucks.

I am glad to see the US shoring up its reserves of rare earth metals. China cannot be trusted. They are still communists, even though they are using capitalism for their own desires. China will be shown for their true colors soon enough. I expect their economy to stall and implode.
