How come I can't have commas in my sig?

If you take a look at my sig, you'll see plenty of semicolons that should be commas.

Any time I attempt to change a semicolon to a comma (the last time I tried was just a minute ago), the system automatically replaces the comma with a space (or perhaps some ASCII character that shows as a space).

What made me try today is that I noticed other people have commas in their sigs.

Anybody else have this problem? What's the deal?

Indeed. Thanks for the bump; I didn't want to have to bump this thread myself but I will do it until I get a real answer if I have to

I have commas in my sig, and they work fine. Maybe there's something "wrong" with your commas somehow? Maybe you use some special character-set or use a special language setting or whatever? I don't know.

Try to copy/paste one of our commas instead of using "your own" comma, and see if it makes any difference.

I have tried that. I opened Notepad, typed a comma into it, copied it out and pasted it, no dice. Tried copying a comma out of an existing text document, still didn't work.

I use Firefox and wondered if there was some browser issue, so I tried it with IE. Again, no dice.

As far as I can tell, the combination of my account and the sig comma makes ATS upchuck.

I just copied your sig into my profile and changed the s.colons to commas, haven't checked out the results, let's see what happens.

Yep! the commas were changed back to s.colons. Interesting.

Now, ready for something really crazy? I just tested my own signature to see if commas work and they have all disappeared when applied.

My signature looked like this: testing comma testing comma

*Except there were actual commas between those four words.

Somebody else mentioned this problem, a couple of months back.
It seems to be one of the side-effects of the 2010 update, which affects new signatures but not existing ones.
So if you insert signature text, either for the first time or editing an existing set, the commas disappear.
If you had commas in your signature before the update, the commas will remain untouched as long as you don't try to change it.

You have to see the funny side here..
Everyone that tried to help you got messed up..

But I'm sure ATS will fix the issue soon

I have issues with both commas and apostophes in my signature - last time I edited it, I put the absolutely fundamental ones in as words in brackets, but it really would be nice if the basics of punctuation were available in the signature. I now get a little stab of jealousy every time I see a signature with commas and apostrophes, just because they've been members for longer...

It's because you have been bad and ATS have taken away your comma privileges!

I can't put commas in either, something I didn't know until you bought it up.

Edit.
I just worked out that you can put commas in if you use decimal HTML characters
So you have to put
& # 4 4 ; without the spaces

I am the same as you.

It stops me from being able to comment on others' grammar.

You are a genius...

A life without apostrophes was killing me. Quite literally.

I posted the solution above, in case you missed it

You have to use HTML decimal code so for a comma you put
& # 4 4 ;
without the spaces

you can get the code for other characters here
