President Obama was voted in for many reasons, but uniting the country can fall under "aspirations" of every POTUS ever to serve. It certainly was NOT the REASON he was elected.

It also reeks of hypocracy when the far right looks to blame him for divisivness when they have spent the last 18 months calling him a Muslim Terrorist born in Kenya and filbustering more than any congress in US history...no exageration there...

President Obama has extended more olive branches than seems humanly possible and the GOP has simply not found it in thier best interest not to afford him any claims of bipartisanship.

- Deny him bipartisanship
- Deny him any legislative victories (Now ponder this...if something is considered a legislative victory...something that appeals to voters...doesn't that mean it is likely to be generally good for US citizens?)

Those are hot button words that the right uses to demonize their opponents. I guess we can through Progressive in their now, because now 'Progress' is to be termed as a bad word. What word should we replace it with, Regressive? Will that be their new nicknames, "I am a Regressive!".

Why do the Democrats not resonate with what is considered 'Average Joe'? Because they try and explain through process the way of fixing things. Liberals, Progressives, Socialists and Libertarians think long-term while Conservatives, Religious-Right think short-term.

Why do Democrats not receive huge votes? Because Americans want the job done now, not set us on a plan where over the next decade we will be stronger, they want it done now, today! But we know it the world of reality that is impossible, but that is the promise of Republicans. They give the Democrats just 2 years of complete control of every branch of legislature and the executive and by the end of these two years it's not that we aren't recovering, it's not that wars are winding down, it's not that jobs aren't coming back, it's that all these things are done NOW.

Republicans have the ability to feed of that now logic and actually nurture and encourage it. The Republicans had 6 years with complete control and what did they do with it? Two wars, Patriot Act, Deregulation, Corporatization, Cut Corporate Taxation, Tax incentives to send jobs oversees and setting the foundation for total collapse. Now they let the Democrats have just TWO YEARS to clean up their mess of 12 years and are railing against them every step of the way.

Republicans, "Why haven't you created jobs?"

Democrats, "You have filibustered everything!"

Republicans, "Why isn't the economy recovered?"

Democrats, "You have filibustered everything!"

We have given the Democrats just 2 years to clean up everything the Republicans have done in 6. Not to mention that Republicans controlled Congress from 1995-2007. Altogether the Democrats have had 2 years under Obama and 2 years under Bush. The Republicans had 6 years under Bush and 6 years under Clinton.

HOW THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO CLEAN UP THEIR MESS IN JUST 2 YEARS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY VOTE 100% NO ON EVERYHING!!!

Should we stop insurers from dropping covering on the sick?

Republicans - "No, we must make this Obama's Waterloo!"

Should we help small businesses get access to lines of credit?

Republicans - "No, we must not help small businesses!"

Should we keep the Middle Class and Poor tax cuts?

Republicans - "No, we will filibuster unless the top 3% get the tax cuts too. We don't give if taxes go up on everyone else!"

Oh I see. When Republicans trash Democrats (which they do in every speech and on Fox 24 hours a day) that's constructive criticism. It's not divisive or anything to insist our president is in power illegally because he's secretly foreign, secretly a Marxist, and secretly a Muslim. Yes, Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow and some other commentators on MSNBC criticize the right on many issues. In my opinion they give rational reasons for doing so. If they get under your skin maybe it's because they've hit the nail on the head, at least on some occasions.

It certainly isn't because the wars have stopped, in fact by month more troops are dying now than ever before in Afghanistan. icasualties.org... The true irony will be in 2012 when Obama gets landslided out of office and a Republican takes control all we'll sudden start seeing antiwar protests and troop death numbers on the news again every night. Everybody in government, and I mean EVERYBODY has to go. All incumbents, all Republicans, all Democrats. Anyone endorsed by either major party gets kicked to the curb. Only vote for and elect third party and real Independents. It really doesn't mater who we put in office because they are incapable of doing anything anayway. It's only important whjo we NOT put in.
