The government has no right to stop the mosque from being built. However, there are some muslims who will consider its completion as a sort of victory dance and that disgusts me. Moreover, IMO, Islam should be viewed more as a political system rather than a religion. There is no separation of church and state in sharia dominated countries. Sharia IS a political ideology as well as religious law. Would we have allowed a communist party headquarters to be built anywhere during the height of the cold war?

As far as the topic is concerned ; there is evidence that Berry Soetero(sp) was registered as a muslim when he attended school in Indonesia at or around the age of twelve. As far as I know, his registration to Occidental college has never been released. At the very least, his formative years were spent around muslim men. Do I care? Normally no. It's none of my business what he 'is' as long as he stays within the boundaries of the Constitution. However, I really don't like seeing ANY POTUS bow to ANY other world leader, especially the troglodyte ruler of Saudi Arabia. Two more years and he's gone anyway.

You mean turn the other cheek and take the knock out punch.

That's a good angle to win a war or win over a country if you can get your enemy to fall for it.

Well I suppose I am now off your Xmas card list

Not a big deal I don't have an Xmas card list.

Obama's comments from a recent CNN article on his endorsement of the NYC Mosque:

"In this country, we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion," Obama said after giving a speech on the Gulf Coast oil disaster in Panama City, Florida.

On Saturday, Obama said he "was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there."

"I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding," the president added. "That's what our country is about."

There's plenty of reasons to bash Obama - this isn't one of them.

We are not, nor have we ever been a christian country.

Just because the majority of people follow a certain aspect of a religion (I mean really, who are the christians, quakers, catholics, LDS, pilgrims, Lutherans, protestants..?)
Does not make the country that religion.

Also. If he was a muslim, why not just state it? It's not like anyone can do anything. You can't have him impeached. Can't attack him for it (well you can try)

And what is the issue if he is muslim? We have freedom of religion for a reason. And this is exactly that reason.

Actually I'm pretty sure we had a communist party during the cold war.

Communists have been vilified for the past 50 years, but the government still has no right in stopping them from being communists.

But now that you bring up communism.

Do you notice similiarities?

I confess you have a good sense of humour. you are back on myXmas card list.

No I am against the fundamentalists and the murders. America is my adopted country and the people deserve to live their lives in peace. I just believe that a war is only fifty percent physical we must win hearts and minds.

Playing by the rules are mandatory. I would not want to live in a fundamentalist state be it xtian or moslem.

But not all Muslim-majority countries practice Sharia law. Islam is indeed only a religion.

Obama did not actually say that. It is quite clear from the actual quote that he was saying he would defend Muslims should political winds change. He is right and I am happy he said that. It means he is an observer of the law and the Constitution.

Only if he gets sufficient time in power will we learn if Obama is (or becomes) an Islamic theocrat or not.

Given information widely available, on the net and in MSM available in Britain, he appears to have both Islamic and socialist leanings and this is enough to convince me to remain alert and aware of his election call for change.

I think Obama is a dangerous man. Socialism, Islam and Free Democracy seem awkward bed-mates to me and a man cannot serve two masters.

Islam is just a religion , unless you live in an Islamic State. Then it becomes the basis for all aspects of government. I'm not Christian, so don't sue me if I get it wrong, but I always considered the Jesus quote : "render unto Caeser what is Caeser's" to be the main difference between the two religions. From the beginning Mohamed controlled every aspect of his follower's life.

To all of the fundamental christians out there. If you god is so powerful as you believe he is, here is my question. Why did he not squash Mohammed in 400 AD and stop it all right there.

You all don't have a leg to stand on, in the old testament, he squashed all kinds of folks, do you think his power has been reduced? Just thoughts that came to my intelligent agnostic mind. Think again folks, the Christian god has no power, or I would have long been struck down by now.

I actually think BHO is more an athiest than anything...I don't think he believes in God - he pretty much admits that his Mother didn't have any regard for religion and that he was pretty much the same.

I wonder if he's ever read (from cover-to-cover) the Old Testament, or the New Testament, or the Koran...my bet would be the Koran.

Does the man even go to Church?

I think the building of the mosque is about turning the other cheek to soften the image of america in the muslim world - besides isn't that what Jesus said to do...

So true - Imagine how much 'cred' Obama's statements regarding the mosque are affording him the Muslim world. This is one action that could have far-reaching positive ramifications for our relations with Muslim nations.

You have to consider that most atheist's and agnostic's know the book better than you do. No one has answered my question.

No, the constitution does NOT protect us from religious fervor.

The constitution protects us from the establishment through active or passive legislation of a state religion as well protecting us from any legislation that prevents us from worshipping our god or gods in whatever way we deem fit.

Can you please explain how you are not concerned about Saudi Islamic mosque building in the USA? Please answer thruthfully...this is the heart of the issue in this thread.

It is nice that he is an observer, but would be better if he was a practitioner of the Constitution, on more than just a few hot-button topics, like the daily life of America. IMO.

If I protested everything I was against. I would protest the local Baptist church every weekend.

The mosque site is not at ground zero, several hundred feet away, get over it.

Agreed, but Obamas only master is Obama. He is just in it for himself and he truely doesn't give a damn who he hurts, Muslim or Christian, Mexican or American, Man or Woman, Black or White. He realy doesn't give a sh&*.

It is a true shame. The man holds one, if not the most powerfull positions in the whole world, as the leader of the USA, and he is just looking for what more he can do to make himself look good.
