Actually, the economy has created 160,000 jobs in March and the employment has incresed the most is has in 3 yrs. The unemployment rate is at 9.7 percent and not 13. There are an estimated 13 million Americans out of work.

I am only saying this so that we can discuss the problem without inflated numbers.

By the way, if socialism is so bad, then why are the unemplyed calling for more unemployment bennys? Unemployment benefits are the definition of a socialist program, whereas the gov is directly involved with your current income.
Once they return to work, they become true Americans again? What the hell is going on here? Stay away from my healthcare, but while you're listening, please send me checks for another fiscal year?????

The bump up in employment numbers is a result of the US government hiring census workers. Come April when they are all laid off you'll see the numbers rise again. No one is hiring PERIOD! Unemployment is a lot higher than 9.7%. If you're going to argue statistics atleast use honest ones.

Yeah and in your grandfather's generation the CEO's of companies weren't making a thousand times more than the average worker. I'm an RN at a hospital. Why should I take a pay cut in threat of being laid off when the CEO is driving around in a Bentley? That's the other part of the problem..........the people at the top don't make any sacrifices. Oh well Steve Jobs doesn't take a salary you say? LMAO!

Take the Rich Off Welfare!

www.thirdworldtraveler.com...

www.markzepezauer.com...

Wealthfare–the money government gives away to corporations and wealthy individuals–costs us more than $817 billion a year. That’s • 47% of what it costs to run the government (which is about $1.73 trillion a year, not counting entitlement trust funds like Social Security and Medicare) • enough money to eliminate the federal debt (now $6.6 trillion, accumulated over 200+ years) in just over eight years • more than four times what we spend on welfare for the poor (currently around $193 billion a year) For a summary of what goes into that $817 billion figure, look below to the table of contents, which lists the estimated annual cost of the various subsidies, handouts, tax breaks, loopholes, rip-offs and scams this book describes. I’ve calculated these amounts as precisely as possible, but they change every year, and data is often hard to obtain, so they are, of course, estimates. If they seem high to you, cut them all by 50%–or 75%; welfare for the rich would still cost more than welfare for the poor. total for 1996 edition: $448 billion a year total for 2004 edition: $817 billion a year

CEO's made way more than average Joe back then too. I'm not saying its right or fair. I'm just saying once they take away your job and then finally your unemployment, you will have no choice than to work far more for far less. When your family is starving, what else can you do?

www.huffingtonpost.com...

"Though the economy added 162,000 new jobs in March, the government hired 48,000 temporary Census workers. As The Business Insider noted, this number was actually quite underwhelming: despite the 9.7 percent unemployment rate, the government reportedly can't find enough workers with the skills needed to work on the census."

... some news to support your comment.

Nationwide it is in the 9% range but my state is nearing 13%. Therefore, to me the unemployment rate is 13% and thats just the people collecting unemployment benefits, not the people actually looking for work.

nor the undermployed, nor the college grads that can't find jobs that can't collect unemployment and aren't counted in the numbers etc. etc. The REAL unemployment numbers are over 20%.

Interesting...these right wingers/teabaggers are moaning and groaning that the government is bloated and out of control...but they go into a panic when they find out that their unemployment checks from that same government may run out.

Then again, if they have a job or no employment money then they don't have the time or funds to protest and picket against the government. Hypocrisy at it's finest. Unbelievable!

Wow youre so right it is only right wingers who get benefits and the others all have money trees in their back yards. It never ceases to amaze me how shills will use any chance they can get to take a jab.

This has nothing to do with politics it is not health care. An for all you idiots out there thinking this does not effect me because I have a job you need to wake up and look around real hard. This will ripple to every corner of America and it does not matter if you are left or right.

Ask yourself this with the economy barely holding its own what happens when a million people fall out of the system? And mortgages dont get paid and cars get repossessed?

I agree it is a bad situations but until some job recovery happens this is the only band aid holding this nation together like it or not.

Economy in crisis is probably THE best website for the US economy. Very informative website.

50% of all jobs in the US are expendable. Meaning they add very little to no value to the economy. Hence why the current unemployment will probably stay high. The only way you add true value to an economy is to mine something, build something, or grow something. I.e. industry/manufacturing, agriculture. Industries that have been decimated by the financialization of our economy and the outright plunder and pillage by WallStreet, the government and corporations. 98% of all the jobs on WallStreet are worthless. Just same as government jobs.

I don't know what to believe now. Your article is a month old though. Big difference between 9.7 and 21 percent though. Perhaps it's somewhere in between? If so, that's gotta be the highest ever. 21 percent! My goodness.

Nobody is hiring period? I can go to monster or craigslist and find you many who are. I can tell you I hire people and have an opening right now that is hard to fill with a target of 68 k per year.

I'd like to tell all of you who are honestly making 110% effort to find a job that I really feel for you and wish you the best. Every day I thank my lucky stars that I'm still employed. If there was something I could do to help, I would.

That said, I feel most unemployed really aren't making 110% effort.

I agree, there are those who view this as a paid vacation and there are those that draw benefits and work "under the table". It sickens those of us who struggle everyday.

I sometimes go days without a good meal, I use those days as a spiritual insight. "Fasting" lol. Ive put in probably a thousand resumes easily, my day is consumed with obtaining work , regardless if its less than what I make on unemployment. Any who think unemployment is such good money , its well under 40 hours at the new minimum wage. Its capped at 320 dollars a week. Whats that mean for someone who has a morgtage? Kids?

Quite looking down your nose at the unfortunate. I made the mistake of putting what little excess money i had into a mutual fund that our company sold and sold to us at meetings. I have twenty one cents in it now.... Not much to fall back on eh?

There are many who are well rooted in the area to be able to move, and those like myself that wish and have the ability to travel for work but no finances to do so. I wish this plight on NO man. I dont laugh at third world countries , we are quickly becoming one. Hell, the third world countries have OUR jobs.

I just wish those high and mighty that think that living on unemployment is a lazy substitute for working knew how rough it actually is. Im on craigslist , monster... almost every avenue thinkable to find work. my 250 a week is gone for rent. I pay 550 for a substandard one bedroom s#!thole. that leaves less than 500 (before taxes) for overpriced food, overpriced gas and over priced utilities.

Trust me , its no vacation. Please dont troll these threads until you really understand how bad its getting for many many americans.

Why do they make it so hard? It is easy take the money you have already got with the stimulus bill and use it to build roads and schools and police stations and parks.....

Why are they not doing this? this would solve the problem and we also need to bring our troops home and stop fighting in so many wars and we need to stop foreign aid for awhile until we get back on our feat.

I have to wonder about the timing of this is it a test? Lets see how mad the American people get? We needs jobs before they can cut this money and if the jobs are not there watch out it will fall apart. And people that get unemployment have paid into the system it is not welfare look how the system works before mouthing off it make you look stupid and uneducated.
