Standing on the precipice
contemplating a fall
tears streaming down his face
he couldn’t understand at all

He had lost his job
to no fault of his own
the bills piled up around him
all the jobs were gone

They came and took his truck
they came and took her car
they lost the home he’d bought her
over the years they’d come so far

He picked up cans to sell for scrap
he tried to keep them fed
thanks to his parents
they at least had a warm bed

She watched as he struggled
his manly pride now bruised
she tried to tell him all was well
she didn’t know what to do

They cried the tears of sadness
they couldn’t count the cost
everything they’d worked hard for
was now forever lost

Stepping back from the edge
he went and found his wife
they could take his belongings
but they couldn’t take his life

Together they held each other
fighting through the pain
though the world fall down around them
strong their love will remain

Things are just things she said
they can be replaced
You are my shelter
my love be not disgraced

They were in this together
two against the world
that is what love is about
And love they could afford!

Thank you! Not yet, but it has certainly become a reality for many over the past year! Scary times indeed and I fear we have yet to see the worst!

be where you stand , be in the moment .
if you stay calm , and deal with what is right in front of you ,
...one day at a time...

dream with your heart , think with your head , be where you stand , do the best that you can ...

you will be somewhere you can grow from when the bad times end .
memorys are made during the bad times , no one remembers when they mark time .

good times , when the living is easy , does not build charicter , honor or trust .
this is a test , success or failure , you will know your self better when this time pass's

Very good. This is the type of work that is real for many people especially in these times. I really did enjoy it and it was quite emotional. at least it had a happy ending!!!!! lol Left me feeling good. Even though every material item can be taken from us, our love for one another cannot be.
S&F!

You never fail to lift my spirits Greenize! Thank you for reminding me of what is important. Your poetry is very much appreciated. That avatar is something else too! Very cool.

Edit to add S+F, it's a no brainer.
