Obama's call on photos saved lives

www.cnn.com

The president's decision last week to fight the release of dozens of photographs depicting the alleged abuse of prisoners in detention facilities in Afghanistan and Iraq was more than just a political decision. It was a decision that saved lives.

By fighting the release, President Obama put the safety of our troops before the demands of an activist agenda, and Americans should thank him for it.

When photos surfaced of abuse at Abu Ghraib in April 2004, violence dramatically spiked in Iraq

This is another conspiracy from the Obama camp. All MSM was reporting the torture in Afghanistan. The photos were not important. Violence in Iraq after Abu Ghraib spiked because of the media gave coverage to the torture, it was not just the photos.

Obama is doing what no one should be allowed to do in the US, not give the media the right to freedom.

Obama saved no lives, he just 'saved' them from embarrasment, did he?

How is he not giving the media their freedom of the press? They are still talking about the torture, he hasn't stopped them. No one has. I dislike the man and disagree with him on most things, but this I agree with him on. There's no reason to release those photos. There's no reason to add fuel to the fire.

Hard as it may be to believe, some things really shouldn't be flashed around in the media. Releasing these pictures would serve no purpose.

There is no reason to supress these photos either. The violence in Iraq and Afghanistan still goes on, these photos would not add fuel to fire, Obama wants to hide US shame, and that is why the photos have to be released to the media

Why do you think Obama's decision saved lives? The violence in Iraq and Afghanistan has not been blocked, it is growing.

These photos are from the ABU GARIB Investigation, those "Soldiers" and I use that term loosely, have been giving tough sentences by a military trial, releasing those photos is nothing more then giving the bad guys another propaganda recruiting tool. If you can’t see that then maybe you need to get some glasses.

You American's have no business in these countries in the first place! Any human who takes pride in raping killing displacing and destruction is really sick. As a real woman I am truly fed up with Man and his chaotic inclination to deception and sadism, but most of all I am truly discussted with the females who participate and enjoy torturing - the pictures should be brought out and the culprits should be gassed - deserving rabid zombies!

For some reason this reminds me of North Korean Propaganda -

IMO the President should not decide what the media does and does not. The media must have freedom of press.

In many countries, media undertakes the moral responsibility and does not submit information in certain situations.

Obama, leave it to the media.

And America is not the bad guy here, Saddam and the Taliban were far worse then anyone knows, or can possible imagine. Buy go ahead continue to blame America when your nations or either to cowardice or not strong enough to do the job we do.

Yes the President has decided and can decide to do that, he can also classify them if he so choose. Why are you people so willing to let more Soldiers be killed over the acts of a few Idiots whose mothers didn’t hug them enough? The People who committed these crimes are locked away there is no need to further incite violence against troops.

Punish the people responsable at all high levels I say, not only the scapegoats that got mild punishment!

Rule of Law must be implemented at all levels! - otherwise you have nothing more than a Fascist Dictatorship that have killed your republic & democracy!

I think that you maybe need new glasses?!

Peace!

You are right. The news about these photos is there already. The terrorists do not need to see the photos to to carry out violence.

What part of the Idiots who did this are locked up do you not understand? Also what part of more soldiers and Arab civilians will die if these photos are released. It serves no purpose unless you are anti-American and wish for this country to fail and die. So just admit that you wish to see this nation fail.

No sir! only scapegoats were punished!

U.S Lawyers that Spain & Belgium now are collecting evidence about, for crimes against humanity are one group!

The people responsable & proven guilty for crimes against the humanity through proven signatures, and implementation of the torture agenda in the former administration: Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney , Wolfowitz etc - are the second group!

All these men should be prosecuted & punished with the Rule of Law if you want to save your face infront of the whole world!

Once again! new glasses can do you good!

If you are referring to CIA water boarding and its enhance interrogation methods, it was deemed not torture but DOJ lawyers as well as members of both sides of the isle. We are referring to the pictures that Obama has blocked from release (stay on topic). No one is going to get there hands on the previous administration regardless if Spain and Belgium indicted the former administration or not. So again you need to get new glasses and you should really stay on topic.

Obama administration and his 'group' do have the same agenda.

What is not good is that people in Iraq and Afghanistan are tortured because the white American soilder thinks he is superior to them and hence can torture them. I hope my statement is taken here in the right spirit. It is because racism exists in America and the attitude that any Muslim or Arab is a terrorist or someone inferior.

Yet everybody lauds the concept of Truth and Reconciliation...get the true story out there in all its ugliness so that you can learn from it and move along.

This 'generate more violence' stuff is a crappy excuse for censorship. Sorry, that dog won't hunt.
