Should the Jews Apologize?

First off, I would like to state that I claim no religious affiliation. Nor is this a finger pointing at the Jews session.

I was watching a South Park the other day, it was the episode about the Passion of Christ. Kyle, the little jewish boy on the show, saw the movie and was horrified. Anyways, he went to the temple and asked the people there �why don�t we apologize for what we let happen to Jesus?�. He said something like �We don�t need to admit that he is the son of god, just that he was a good man, and we shouldn�t have let him die like that.�

It got me thinking, what would happen if one of the high Rabbis issued an apology for what happened, something along the lines of what Kyle said? I thing it could be a huge step in mending the bad blood between the religions. After that, not wanting to be out-done by the Jews, the Christians could apologize for something, (support of the NAZI�s in the beginning of WWII). Get the Muslims in on it too. I think if we could atleast be able to apologize for things that were done in our religions names in the past, that would be a great step to peace in the future. We all need to stop holding f-ing grudges, and get over ourselves.

I understand there is about a 0.0000000001% chance of this ever happening, but I think it should. What do you guys think?

Why should they apologize for anything that happened over 2000 years ago. Thats if it's even their fault to begin with.

The jews does not have to appologize for something they do not believe jesus is not their messia the messia from the line of david to become a kind was not jesus in their eyes so they have nothing to appologize for, and I also saw the southpark episode. They are my favorite nauty children.

I think the Romans killed Jesus, not the Jews. But hey, I'm practical, which pretty much makes me ineligible for any religious conversation.

I hate it when people say that! The Jewish Rabbis killed Jesus because they saw him as a threat. Pilate (the governor) said you can do what you want with him, and that Jesus has done nothing wrong. The Jews were the ones that said kill him. They exnaged him for some murderer! So the Romans had nothing to do with it. It was all Jews!

That is the beauity of it, no one has to apologize for anything that THEY actually did, just there ansestors. That I think, could help start a dialog between the religions, which would lead to more tolerence of each others religions.

heh... if anyone should appologize here, thats catholic church for persecuting and murdering Jews for centuries just because a few of them killed a man who was supposed to die anyway for our sins, that was his purpose on earth according to church. So they should actually thank jews for saving their souls from hell.

Anyways, it all happened 2000 years ago. Get over it, time to move on.

Oh ok, so of the tens of thousands of crucifixions that the Romans were responsible for, the Jews were responsible for this one. Was it a Jew that reported Jesus to the Roman authorities? No, it wasn't. The pilate had him rounded up all by himself for claiming to be the Son of God, when everybody was supposed to believe that the Roman Emperor was the only divine offspring.

The Romans used crucifixion for punishment of criminals. The Romans escorted Jesus to Golgotha. The Romans nailed him to the cross. The Romans erected the cross. The Roman soldier stabbed Jesus in the side. The ROMANS crucified Jesus!

Oh, and you're not supposed to be hating. You're going to hell now. See ya there...

Though they may have wanted his death, why should the Jews today apologize for what transpired over 2,000 years ago?

Do I think they should? No.
They will come to their own personal terms at a time so deemed by grace, not by man.

I think the Jews should apologize. But they should apologizes right after God comes down and apologizes for murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Men, women, children, pregnant women, newborn babies the whole 9 yards. Than I think he should be held to his own laws and be sent to hell like the cold blooded murderer he is. Than and only than do I think any apologies should be made.

The Jews will never apologize for the crucifiction of Jesus because they are Jews, they run the whole world and they act likt their # don't stink. How come a Jew won't apologize for stepping on my shoes? Because he's Jewish.

Why should the Muslims apologize? They were no where near the incident.

Muslims wouldn't apologize if they were involved Illmatic, you know that, I know that. Why? Because they didn't see Jesus as Christians see him...but then again, the Jews didn't and don't see Jesus as Christians also...hmmm.

What a typically Christian response. Pilate crucified Jesus. The Jews were mostly the lower class of society in the area at the time. Do you really think the Romans would give them that kind of power? Let me guess, "The Bible says it, so yeah." Use the mind that God gave you to try thinking for yourself instead of blindly believing what is spoon fed into your mouth. Here's a question for you...who compilated & published the Bible? (here's a hint - it was a religious organization bent on subverting the masses to its will and which was in direct competition with the Jews to be a religgious super power).

Islamic terrorists run the whole world? Funny. I thought the UN ran the entire world and I don't see any Muslim with any power in the UN.

Seekerof, I thought you had serious mind thinking skills but this post is just dumb. How are the Muslim terrorists controlling the world when they are under the spell of world governments.

And the Muslims won't apologize because Islam in the text did not exist.

Let's not forget that polytheism was big business at the time as well. The Romans did not want their entire world view and religion thrown into upheaval. It's not like Constantine became emperor the day after Jesus died.

I think everybody had a lot at stake, but I agree that a mea culpa from the jews would not do anything.

First, it's a little silly, it's like Drew Carey apologizing for slavery in america.

Second it's does nothing to heal the situation. People feel the way they feel. People who hate jews and blacks and hispanics and gays will not stop hating them because someone apologises. It could in fact just reinforce they're already deluded beliefs.

"See the jews are apologizing that means they admit to killing jesus, bastards now they want us to forgive them for killing the son of God!?" Now the guy who hated jews for killing jesus has proof from the jews and a reason to hate them all the more.

While I respect anyones opinion, I think when you have a depiction of Jesus Christ as your avatar you may be a tad biased when it comes to this topic.

I saw that South Park episode, too, and yeah, I thought about it, but the more I thought, the more I wondered.

Why?

Sure, the Pope apologized for the Holy Wars... but that was the actions of man against man, needless. But with Christ...

It was God's will that it were to happen. The leaders of the Jewish community at that time were merely following God's plan... consciously or not. To hold them accountable denies the fact that it was God who wanted Jesus die in the first place.

This thread is NOT ABOUT blaming the jews.

It is not specificially about the crucificition. Just about how all the religions should apologize should apologize to each other for being butt-holes for the past 2000 years.

You stated several times that Jews should apologize, in one manner or another. Granted, there were other religions mentioned as well, but...

And you did ask for our opinions. If you don't like the ones we give, then don't ask for them.
