ZURICH, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The right-wing Swiss People's Party (SVP) called on Saturday for retaliation against the United States over a U.S. tax probe into the country's biggest bank UBS that threatens prized banking secrecy.
Switzerland should also reconsider its policy of representing the United States in countries where it has no diplomatic presence, the parliamentary SVP said in a statement.
U.S. tax authorities said on Thursday they were still pursuing a civil case against UBS seeking access to thousands more names of U.S. citizens it says are hiding about $14.8 billion in assets in secret Swiss bank accounts.
The SVP also said it would call for an urgent debate in parliament on ways to protect Swiss banking secrecy from "further foreign blackmail".
Investors reacted to the news overnight that U.S. authorities want UBS to hand over the names of up to 52,000 American customers suspected of failing to declare all of their taxable assets.
On Wednesday, UBS announced it had reached an agreement to give up some 250 to 300 names to U.S. investigators in an unprecedented breach of Swiss banking privacy.

The question is how they will retaliate. The US has a lot of secrets out there and the revelations of those secrets, if released properly, could shut down the US economy as we know it. Any Senators or Congress People with money there should be relatively concerned.

It will be very interesting to see how far the IRS gets with the Swiss.
Switzerland is an unusual nation. They maintained neutrality through WW1 and WW2. They are not on the euro, not part of the European Union.
The Bank of International Settlements (BIS) is located in Switzerland.

Oh, we could only wish! Wouldn't the political skeletons come out of the closet then!

Now why would UBS select 1/2 of 1% of the 'names' to give the IRS??
perhaps these are accounts by present member of congress,
or maybe accounts of Obama administration appointees...??
so, by answering the IRS request... the USA will be getting an international Slap-In-The-Face in return...
result; the IRS request will be the lastone ever made

I love it.
The money launderers of the world (among others) are getting scared. These unscrupulous, souless scumbags have so much blood money in their possession it had to take our current economic crisis in order for government (any government) to publicly question their centuries-long criminal activities.
I really pity the souls of these bastards, then again, when you have no soul what do you care anyway?
