Ok, I can't believe I have to type this lol

BUT!

The original poster as well as the article writer took what he said out of context. It is a regularly used liberal media tool. Mr. Hume was stating to get over the jokes made by the President not, the death of there loved ones.

Don't let mass ignorance draw you into this...

I have no qualms about soldiers dying in the fight, hell, I once was prepared to make that very sacrifice. I do have a problem with the cause however. if the cause is not worth loss, than its another vietnam style waste, death without purpose or long term benefits.

I totally agree with you Skadi, I will be taking the oath this year and I am prepared to die for a true cause, not for some political game played by fat cats.

Yup, Polskie, one reason I left the US army. And one reason I still get tears in ym eyes every time I hear another US soldier dies. They are dying for nothing, if anything, they are dying for the enemies of thier own country and know it not.

Good luck to you and your service in your nations military, in my opinion, its perhaps amongst the most honorable and noble things any human can do: sacrfice his comfort and life for service in the defense of his home, no matter what nation it be. Hopefully, your experience will be an enriching one!

Skadi and Polskie,

Skadi says:
"And American soldiers continue to die.....for what, pray tell? Liberation and democratisation of a people best lefdt under dark age tyrant rule for thier own benefit?"

What kind of arrogant, bigoted crap is that? Who are you that you can decide that "those people" cant handle democracy?

Liberty and democracy are some of the highest ideals that anyone can die for. Those ideas are the basis for entire cultures and countries....thru history many people have fought, overthru governments , and died just over the IDEAS of wanting freedom and democratic rule. (hello AMERICAN REVOLUTION!!)

How in the hell can you say that thats not worth fighting for? because you already have it? (lazy!)
Anyone that dies defending his country's soverign interests and ideals, while also giving the same soverignty and liberty to an oppressed people, is twice the HERO!
Selfless giving ones service for ones own people as well as trying to help oppressed ones elsewhere, some of whom might even be your enemy.
this sounds like the behaivior of a knight in shining armor, a paladin with a lawful good alignment,

Its not what the cause is that makes one noble,
Its the fact that one is willing to sacrifice like this that does.

Skadi says:
"they deserve saddam"
So your advocating brutal dictatorships for people then? which people, where, if its so good for them, why dont you live there too?

SWkadi, no, I haven't had the chance to go to the Wall. I have been to funerals of my own buddies, though. I have a living memorial of the war, my father, and other reminders, friends and mentors. And, I don't believe the war was for nothing. But that has been covered in the past. This war we have now is not for nothing, either. You may not choose to believe it, but the threat is real. And the war is not for the Iraqi people, but for us. I agree, they do not deserve liberty as they did nothing to gain it, and I'm willing to bet they do not keep it more than ten years, if that. However, we never leave without restoring. The only thing we leave is blood, footprints, and maybe a handful of illegitimate kids.

because they cant. In order to be ready for highly evolved govorning bodies, like democracies, republics, even mildly socialist free societies, a people and thier culture have to evolve beyond the #ing dark ages.

If you look at the middle east, its always been full of iron fisted tyrants. Thats all they understand because they still follow codes of conduct and superstitions thousands of years old. They are ruled by the crap.

Europe, iin its dark ages, with thier mentality, were suited only for feudalism. Only after years of ethnic wars, religious insanity, and oppression, did the people begin to shed the dark ages, the influence of religion as a primary force of law and govornance, and pursue science. They begin to have the rennisance. Thier entire culture changed. They began to shed the barbarism and idiocy of the past. They began to revive the Classic civilizations and thier ideals. They began to revolutionize everything. They transformed, evolved from illiterate slaves to the church and superstition to a thinking, forward moving society. ONLY because THEY chose so, it was not enforced by outside influences.
Asia did the same. hence, Japan, an excellent example. Because they themselves chose to follow that path. It was a rocky one, ideoligical wars replaced the old religious ones. But ultimately, through trial and error, they moved on.

The middle east still chooses to live in the dark ages of thier own. No, they are not ready for a democracy. Youre an adult, right? Youre mature enough for sex. But is a 6 year old mature enough for sex? no.

Just like Iraq is not evolved enough socially for democracy, or any other western style govornment.

Ok, TC, at least were on the same page.

At least you understand the shame in sheding a bunch of soldiers blood for no good reason, even if we disagree on what war constitutes it.

Im still waiting for something good to come out of Iraq. I still think we should have nailed the Saudis, though, Iraq was not worth the effort. I still believe the Saudis are the biggest terrorist threats, bigger than the Taliban was, on the planet, seeing how thier oil money is used to fund the terrorists, and thier regime is very brutal. Fighting that dirtbag regime would have justified any loss of soldiers incurred by it, and for nailing the Saudis, i would have jumped in and re enlisted specifically for that purpose.

Im still waiting for thier day of reckoning.....

Let me see if I got this right Skadi,

You want to go after Saudi Arabia because some of her people provide financial support to terrorists? That is it?

That is about the lamest reason that I have ever heard to go to war. Does this mean that you advocate going after every country who has provided money to terrorists?

Name one country that has not had its citizens send money to terrorists organizations?

ok, first off, as it was said, the comments about "get over it" were not about those that died, but the WMD jokes.

I think it would be at the very least insanely harsh to tell someone to "just get over it" when a loved one dies.

Here is the biggest problem I have with members of the military/their fam getting mad because IN THIER EYES they are not going over there for a good reason: They were not forced into the military. No one over there was drafted. When you sign up for the army, marines or what ever, it's not on the condition that you aprove of the reason. To think that you will never see combat is stupid - THAT IS YOUR JOB! I have total sympathy and compasion for those that die, and admire the bravery they show. But to hear someone who joins the military bitching about seeing action makes me wonder what they were thinking. Did they think that they were gunna get a free education and get payed to play with cool guns?

BTW - Iraq was a threat, IMO, and thus I see our presence there as a good thing. As for them not beeing able to handle democracy, it's too early to tell. One good thing though is that if we can get it to work, it could turn into an ideological island in the mid east and convert hostile nations.

No, Coolhand, dont be such a thick fool.

I want to hit Saudi Arabia because its govornment knowingly aids and abets terrorists, producing them, looking the other way when they strike foreign interests, ect.

No, the LAMEST excuse for going to war, of course, was attacking a crippled and dying dictatorship that we have spent the past 12 years bombing the # out of anything that renmotely looked destructive, under the premise they had WMD everywhere ready to fling our way. NOW THATS LAME.

Oh, and lets not forget North Korea. While we strained to find the WMD in Iraq, which never turned up, North Korea is waving nukes and all sorts of goodies in our face, and we ignore that.

THATS STUPID.

Do you take me as some kind of moron? I'm signing up to serve my country. I go whether I agree with it or not. It'd just be nice to know what your fighting and dieng for. Would you like your son to die for a lie? Is that patriotic?

Cool guns? I already have cool guns
Free education? I was already offered a full ride the civilian way...

Are you trying to stereotype American troops? I don't know what the hell your problem is, but I reccommend you fix it soon before that bull your spewing around gets the crap beat out of you.

The fact that the royal family aids, abets, and supports terror is a known fact. Skadi need not prove this.

I can't see what was so offensive about Bush's joke, it didn't denegrate anyone, its was not directed to anyone. I would be inclined to agree with the guy, and even go so far as to suggest they "grow a spine".

To infer from the joke that he was offending American dead, is just an exercise in political crap.

Its the domain of people with eggshell personalities.

Hmmm.... I was for the first time in two months, talking to my brother in Tikrit today on the phone and I wonder if he, his fellow troops(esp the KIAs) and the families of the dead coalition soldiers found Bush's jokes funny?

I only have a problem with Bush poking fun at the WMDs because he is our leader and he used WMDs as his main reason to go to Iraq. As our leader,he should be held to higher standards and I expect him to NOT make light of that reason. That reason has sent 500+ American kids to their deaths.

Bush speaks for us and represents us worldwide. He must show more tact, humanity and consideration when he publicly speaks for the American people.

People like Hannity, Hume and Linbaugh should all be given a gun and sent over to Iraq to be on night patrol in Faluja and Tikrit. I highly doubt that they would push for ANY war if they had actually experienced one.

Put Limbaugh at point!

THoughts?

And I'm sure the double amputee kid sitting in Walter Reed would have applauded Bush's Jokes if he still had his arms......

Nobody denied the fact that "WMD's" exists; not the democrats or republicans, left or right. Clinton knew it, Bush knew it, Kerry knew it, they all said it. We have photos of dead children in the streets, killed by Hussein's usage of them. We know he refused to prove he did anything to destroy them, and you all know that. The question is not whether or not they exist but where are they now. You know that, as well as the amputees, your kin over their and my friends over there. Stop the stupid politics, no war at any cost-especially if it is to America's freedom-benefit droning.

I am only for war if it is necessary for survival. (WWII comes to mind, Vietnam does not)

I was not injecting politics. I am an independent. Bush's jokes and Humes's remarks offended me because they show a lack of respect. Bush is not a comedian and Brit Hume should just report the news. Let the comedians and satirists' do their job and the reporters and leaders should stick to theirs....esp the President....a lot of more dignity should be required to sit in that office..that goes for Clinton too.

As far as the WMDs, who knows? We are definitely not being told the whole story.

The 9/11 commision is a joke. Everytime I walk past the WTC, I am reminded and we still have no real explanation. As I heard Imus put this morning, "none of those people can see beyond November", especially when it looks like we are going to be in the Iraq for years to come. And I am talking about both Dems&Reps. Richard Clarke at least had the decency to turn around to the families at the 911 hearing and apologize. Everyone else is too busy pointing the finger and covering their own a ss's

Why are we there? I just want a straight-foward answer from our leaders. The American people can handle it. Both our kids and the Iraqi's are getting killed. Why? We deserve to know.

sorry for the rant
