McCain's pick for VP

Does anyone else feel that McCain chose Palin to simply trump Obama's thunder? Really... I mean, it would be quite a clever move.

One thing I must admit that Obama has going for him is the fact that people want to see something amazing happen - such as a first black President. With McCain's pick, they can now vote for him and still have a first woman as Vice President.

Also, and more importantly, could it be an attempt to grab even more of the bitter Hillary fans? Obama has already lost so much support from Hillary supporters that are upset that she lost. Will McCain steal even more of them with this move?

Palin is a first term governor from ALASKA. What other angle could he be going for?

John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls "a checkup from the neck up."

In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, he is not thinking "outside the box," as some have said. More like out of his mind.

Palin a first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

i agree, Mr.McCain is being a hypocrite by calling Obama inexperienced but then picking an experienced woman for vp. Sure she might have a son going to Iraq but how does she understand true american struggles when she's only been mayor for a city, and being investigated by the state of alaska for a corrupt system. Honestly McCain is trying to steal Obama's historic triumph, that's the way i see it. I deeply respect McCain and Palin but I don't believe they understand what everyday americans such as myself go through to try and get to a better tomorrow. When my mom and father came to this country they did not have money or know how to speak english. Yes they were illegal immigrants but now they are proud citizens who have a business and have contributed and reached the American dream. With another republican regime all we look forward to is more of the same Bush/cheyney policies

I'm glad many immigrants don't agree with you, especially those from Russia, Poland and Romania who are warning that Obama's policies resemble those Marxist policies they left in the first place.

Obama can't identify with the common US citizen. If stating that "inflating your tires and getting a tune-up" is a solution and identifying with the poor man's struggle making it from check to check, then we are certainly in trouble.

Obama grew up with his rich grandparents and before that, with his rich Muslim Indonesian Step-dad. Even his biological father came from a rich family.

as a son from immigrants i find it hard to believe that others would be with mccain. After all the republican party certainly has made USA better yes obama did have money and his parents were well off, but if you don't know when barack obama went to live with his grandparents in Hawaii around the age of 10 he saw the struggles his grandfather and grandmother had to make. From his grandmothers hard long hours of work they survived and although he may have not had an extremely tough life the point is that I believe he gets the American Dream and understands what it's like when your parents or loved ones put in all of their hard work so one day you can be a successful person. Barack Obama provides that extra umph to some Americans which I believe need to get of their lazy buts and get to work. "change doesn't come from washington, change goes to washington" a quote from obama which i think stresses the reality of this day. Work for your goals but don't be left hanging when you need that extra help(republicans)

Actually, I work with tons of immigrants (mostly from Guatemala and surrounding South American countries), and they are all for Obama. Unfortunately they can't vote, though.

I really, really like Pallin

I actually don't see how he could have picked better.

The experience factor doesn't weigh very heavy for me, she's a real American Woman, she ran a town of 8,000 which to me is a bigger accomplishment than a town of 80,000 and she is a family woman and that is where my concerns lay.

There are things about Obama that are... off

Not having pets... weird right? but not really, he dislikes animals, no presents?

He has no heart this guy... no real heart

Here's the problem with socialists over a Republican... Pallin, or McCain...

Would, if need be bankrupt America, they will conduct business and escape the debt we have

Obama... will make US pay it all back...

He can talk all he wants about lowering taxes and making America better

But McCain would treat this situation and would Bush building this debt...as a business, he will F our creditors and restructure, like anyone that does business would...and that Works

I'd go down to court and get myself the papers and get out of that debt or at the least, get a low long term payment option which is whats offered

Actually, Obama was correct in stating that inflating one's tires to the proper levels will improve gas mileage. That was all he said. He never said that if Americans did this it would solve our foreign oil dependency problem. He was responding to a question concerning what individuals might do to help reduce gas consumption.

Why do you intentionally distort? Is the truth of no importance to you?

Though you said a lot in your post... this section really summed it up.

You are what's wrong with America. Financial irresponsibility. And worse than that... no accountability. Unfortunately, defaulting and claiming bankruptcy on 100k is a far cry from $9,652,358,605,195.89

It's a whole different ball game when you start talking about trillions of dollars. Again, I hate to point this out... but no one talks policy ever on this board.

I don't know if policy just goes over people's heads, or if they prefer to just make judgments about how many pets someone has or whether or not they wear a lapel.

I don't know how to respond to most of the people's "problems" with Obama.

Obama is a first term Senator who never held a real job and he's asking the country to entrust him with the responsibility of POTUS.

Palin is a remarkable person and should be a source of inspiration to all Americans. Obama's congratulatory message to her was pure class, unlike the response of many of his followers who know nothing about her.

Obama has 8 years in the Illinois Senate and 2 in the US Senate. So he is a first term US Senator... not a first term Senator.

Believe it or not, maybe she is a remarkable person and extremely well-qualified candidate. Maybe everything isn't about strategy and positioning.

I have a friend who met Palin about three months after she became governor and he told me then that she was an incredibly remarkable person who was going to be the first female POTUS someday.

Maybe she's really all that. I don't know. And neither do most people here if they're being honest.

However, I think Biden will probably destroy her when it comes to the VP debates.

Because of the soundbite nature of many TV fans, the electoral process is more about the cult of personality, and smearing same.

We had it in this country, where so many people were blinded by blair, only to find out he'd mortgaged the countries future to fund his megalomania/ego

Now gordon brown has to pick up the pieces and will lose the next election, because of blair/brown policies. (brown being the chancellor for many years, he had the purse strings)

More importantly, we'll be paying his bills for the next few years.
