Actually, I am in no mood to rant today. I am very happy as, today, I attended a workshop on Labview software and in the end, won the price for solving a given problem first. Who knows, this news might even come in the university newspaper!

It happened a while ago.

bad joke - sorry, shouldn't have brought it up

@ Ian

I have office 2003 pro - would you say that open office is better?
I've had a quick look but don't want to d/l it unless it can provide a better platform than I already have.

Actually, I must say thank you for bringing my name up! This helps retaining my popularity amid decreasing fanfare.

By the way, which one were your referring to?

There is no harm in knowing. Deny ignorance.

Dunno if it's better or not. MSOffice 2003 was the last usable version, in my opinion. I really think their new interface is crap. Who's idea was it to make menus where items appear and disappear pretty much at random? OO is better, for me because I use several different operating systems and it runs on all of them, for free. Plus I've been using it exclusively for several years now, so I've gotten to where I know it pretty well. As far as I can tell, it has all the features in word processing, spreadsheets, drawing, etc. But the best software is the one that's usable and doesn't get in the way, so if MSOffice is what you're comfortable with, stick with that unless there's a solid reason to change. Bullet point lists of 'features' are a pretty useless indicator of what's better or not, in my experience.

Insert generic Free Software yay comment here.

You know what Ian, I once installed open office last year, along with office 2003, and it corrupted the filed for office 2003. So, I uninstalled open office and reinstalled msoffice and have never tried to install it again, fearing corruption.

Thanks.

Regarding the thumb, the pain has reduced a lot! Good improvement.

Microsoft Word steals author's work, sending it secretly to a digital vault of similarly captured Peasant literature in Gates' vast underground lair. He intends to sift through them for the purposes of his own amusement after most of us get killed in World War 3. Open Office has never done this. Open Office has never even tried to do this. So Open Office it is...

Besides, it makes .pdf files more quickly and efficiently.

(EDIT: I spell things wrong, today)

Is it true!

Exactly, how many documents will the microsoft documents be able to read through?

And also, what about the standalone computers which have office installed on them?

I wouldn't put it past them.

I assert that Gates has most likely constructed more of himself. Perhaps many more. I refuse to believe that his product could cost as much as it does whilst being so crap. He must be focusing on other projects, secret projects unknown to most (if not all).

And also, what about the standalone computers which have office installed on them?

Those boxes are then safe, for the time being.
